Referendumb

46% of NZers couldn’t give a toss about this referendumb to try and gain back the legal right to whack your kids. The smack ‘em club received $1 million from a conservative American religious group to make sure little baby jesus can still clip the kid around the ear and get away with it. Fundy Fist spokesperson Bob McCroskie helped explain after the vote where he saw the line, “I do have a problem with belts’ he said. Well that’s a relief Bob, open handed whacks yes, wooden spoons - yes, belts - whoa there, we need to draw a line on abuse mate. Well done Bob, some would say that’s an ethical stance to take, others would say you’re a half hearted pussy and to harden up.

Yet over half of us do. Do you think you could find 54% of the population who'd vote on any of your pet rant topics?

And lets not pretend that if the 54% of NZer voted 87% in favour of keeping smacking illegal, you would be trumpeting it from the roof tops as an amazing victory for common sense and democracy.

What it actually means is that 87% of 54% of voting NZers were conned by a group of right wing christian Americans into voting to go back into the Neanderthal dark ages.
The people that are affected by this legislation didn't even get a vote! That is the kids themselves.

Forty percent of US voters couldn't be arsed voting for their freaking president last time around. So don't pretend apathy for a non binding postal referendum is indicative of anything special. Except perhaps the Labour ex-government's wasteful and cowardly decision not to piggyback it on the general election.

Oh sure, so you are telling us that the Neanderthal dark ages only finished in NZ last year with the repeal of S59?
