The cloud with no name: Meteorologists campaign to classify unique 'Asperatus' clouds seen across the world
Whipped into fantastical shapes, these clouds hang over the darkening landscape like the harbingers of a mighty storm. But despite their stunning and frequent appearances, the formations have yet to be officially recognised with a name. They have been seen all over Britain in different forms - from Snowdonia to the Scottish Highlands - and in other parts of the world such as New Zealand, but usually break up without producing a storm.

Can these really be new cloud formations, are they seriosuly suggesting a new type of cloud that has never existed before? IF that is true what has changed to allow and create such new clouds? This can't be true, someone must have seen formations like this before at some stage surely?

and then the rain set in
just read 'looks like the sea as seen from below' Whuk, are we in fro some stormy whether
Just because noone has noticed such cloud formations before and decided to classify them does not mean they are necessarily new. They might just be sufficiently rare that people studying clouds have only just now started to pick up on them.
Maybe it is a direct result of carbon monoxide poisoning from the very fossil fuels we are burning that causes this.
Who knows!
Let's call this new cloud formation 'Helen' for her famous fart tax proposal...

To suggest it's just rare but no one has seen anything like it seems pretty far fetched. Much more likely is that global warming is having some un seen before effects on the atmosphere.
clouds=awesome.
it's like the sky of hell!
Obviously its a sign of global warming bomber.
Altocumulus lenticularis.
Common as mud over the east coast of the Sth Is in NW wind flows
Similar to what aj said... suggests, some sort of wave form cloud, but without seeing it in the field, it's hard to tell. The photos are too 'artsy' really.
If you look at this link you will find that unusual cloud formations are not that uncommon at all.

As stated just because something hasn't been classified before doesn't mean it hasn't occurred before. The article originally linked to makes clear that these formations are very transitory so therefore don't hang around a long time. It is entirely conceivable that with the plenthora of digital photographic devices now out there they are being captured before they disappear. This would have brought them to the attention of those interested in such matters.
OR Maybe, it's not a cloud at all, but something else that we simply cannot comprehend. Therefore we perceive it as a strange cloud formation.
I think somebody with a stick and a string has been trying to create crop circles in the sky.
i just want to know if it's photoshopped or not. there are only pictures no footage. its not in the news either so this must be bullshit
Has anyone asked the US Government if they were using HAARP around the time that this cloud formation was spotted?? Google HAARP... Who knows what the affect of bouncing a billion hz off of the ionosphere really is
