An officer at Christchurch Men's Prison took stress leave after being hounded by colleagues for reporting another guard for smuggling drugs, the Sensible Sentencing Trust says. Revelations of the officer's leave came as a prisoner inside Christchurch Men's Prison told The Press "drugs are more accessible on the inside than the outside". The Press understands the officer has been transferred to Rolleston Prison after he ran out of leave and had no choice but to return to work. A prisoner inside Christchurch Men's Prison said that despite Corrections having "a bit more control" than in the past, drugs were "still rife" and staff at the prison were the main source.
I’m no fan of the Sensible Sentencing Trust but they have pointed out an underlying problem within our corrupt prison system, when you have blind spots that aren’t open to inspection it breeds corruption, NZers don’t care what happens inside prisons once the criminal has been thrown into our under resourced and over stretched penitentiary system, it’s that sort of who cares attitude that led Chubb staff to not bother following prisoner transportation protocols that led to a teenager being beaten to death inside a prison van. Inside this stressfully violent and racist environment it is no surprise that Prison staff stop caring as well and end up going corrupt – we have needed an overhaul of the prison system for a very long time and the longer we take to do it, the more infected the current system will remain.

Therefore, using your own logic, if there are Pakeha and Maori prison guards, then there must be no racism.

If people are bombarded every day with negative examples of anyones race, no matter their own race, they can adopt the same negative stereotypes - being a Prison Gaurd isn't easy, and doing it in an environment as emotionally toxic as prison requires more down stream counselling and recreatio time out than we give them to cope with the over stretched prison system.
Some prison guards are targeted by the gangs to be drug couriers. I worked with one guy who was new to the job. He was not a big man. One night the Nomads turned up at his front door at home and threatened - variously - to torch his house with whoever was in it or fires shots through his windows and walls late at night.... if he didn't carry drugs into the prison for him. He and his family had to abandon their home for months and live in a hotel in another city. In another example, a female staff member was intimidated and threatened....and she DID carry stuff in for the Nomads and was eventually caught. Not good for her.
Right this is a case that Helen and Charlie have to be required to comment and act on. (Where are those drunken morons from the 'union' on this.)
The abuse of honest staff is nothing knew it has always been there - why because the minister, the department heads, local management and the courts all support the guilty and persecute the innocent.
Its not just in the prisons, but all government departments, the police, defence forces ... et al.
Here are a few factual example of abuse that were ignored and encourage - female staff have human shit put in there bags, staff members have their homes broken into by other staff, their vehicles are vandalised, as for reporting staff drug use, drunkeness, theif, colusion with criminals her is an actualexmaple of what happens -
Prison officer asked not to work with seriouly drunk prison officer had her house broken into, was harressed and percusucted, used all her leave and was transfered out, she didn't even report him she knew better, all she asked was to move so she didn't have to work with him, she was one strong women but even she became a wreck as the target of such ongoing abuse - what happen to the drunks and the abuseres - got looked after by the management and the 'union', she was thrown under the bus, its policy god knows why but it works most staff are to scared of losing their job (and house), to scared what will be done to them by the deparment to speak out so they keep quiet.

Numerous MP's, all corections ministers and prime ministers for at least 20 years. Also Jim Anderton.
All managers of all prisions for at least 20 years.
All 'union' officials for at least 20 years.
Do you want more names or is that enough for now, your are supposed to be a jounalist go and talk to these people aske them directly, Charlie will laugh but that coward O'Connel will not be able to speak or look you in the eye.
I have not listed anyone who is not management level, the lower staff are only doing what the are encouraged to do.
Do not blame those who are bottom of the food chain push the shit uphill for a change.
Other guilty parties to this are people like Peter Williams QC, Barry Hart etc al, they have been asked for help by distessed staff for help and been turned away, there is no legal aid avalable and they are not interested anyway.
I feel for staff who are threated by criminals, if that happens there no support and nowhere to go, if you report it you would be laughed at ridiculed and told to toughen up.
Come on bomber do something for a chage, you would know how to use the rules to get access to secret files and stuff, offical information act ect, its all there if you can be bother to do the work.

Good point anon 8.50, but people prefer to project rather than look at their own abusive attitudes and behaviour, thats part of the problem and the reason things are getting worse. Its start with each of us but people don't want to face that.
