John Banks as Associate Minister of Education? Since when did Education become a hate crime?

More depressing than this inane idea to allow companies to buy and run schools for profit, is the fact that John Fucking Banks is the new Associate Minister of Education.

If I may directly, word for word, quote our new associate Minister of Education,

"If we continue the bankrupt response of just paying young Polynesian, young Maori men in south Auckland the dole to sit in front of TV, smoke marijuana, watch pornography and plan more drug offending and more burglaries, then we’re going to have them coming through our windows".

That's our new associate Minister of Education

Since when was book burning a prerequisite for becoming an associate Minister of the Crown?

There's more to worry about than mere teaching for corporate profit.
There is the possibility of teaching ideological nonsense at taxpayer expense. Creationist schools teaching 6,000-year-old-Earth nonsense and forbidding the teaching of the theory of evolution etc. This has already attempted in the "heartland" USA from where this educational model has been lifted.
Science is currently under enough attack, we encourage this new development at our peril.

Compare and contrast with what Dunne got:

1) cutting Bambi a break on heli-hunting

2) Firing three people whose names he can't even remember from his own pet project that, TBH, I thought was canned already.

3) There was something else but his hair is just too distracting to take him seriously.

4) More makeshift busy-work as 'Revenue Minister,' which means he... does something... um... yeah.

GREAT NEGOTIATING THERE GUY!

PS: Didn't Banksy want to be corrections minister? Wonder who yanked his leash to get him to change his mind...

When I heard the quote, I presumed the reason he mentioned Maori and Polynesian is because those ethnicities are overrepresented, statisically, in prisons.

LAND GRAB ALERT!
Okay lets leave aside the Destiny Church School of Hating Gays or The Don Brash School of Freakonomics for a minute.
What the pundits seem to be missing is that, this is a land grab! They will sell the land with the schools, then the companies will go bust, as the model was not "Business Friendly" enough and needed more deregulation and government funding(oxymoron).
So then after these poor companies go bust, the land will either be brought back by the government at highly inflated prices or sold to developers as heavily discounted prices(market value). Watch my lips LAND GRAB!

Some comments on John Banks & the global crisis. Just this morning, the Radio NZ commentator, journalist Dame Anne Leslie sent exciting shivers up my spine with her comments on German bailouts for Greece. She described the Germans as ‘hardworking’ & the Greeks as ‘feckless’. Her analysis is so uncanny, because Hitler used practically the same phrases in the 1930s except he used the term ‘degenerate’ in regard to the Greeks. Isn’t it funny how things go round and round. Dame Anne also worries about demonising the poor and how they are getting picked on by the Tories just because (as she said) they ‘carouse around all night’ and ‘don’t get up in the morning’ - unlike illegal immigrants. I agree with her view that the poor should not be stereotyped by rich people, but they should still be supported into productivity – Albert Speer had some good ideas on supporting the under-employed. John Banks has identified these dreadful people (Polynesian/ Maori males) & in his new role, he will no doubt have youngsters in low decile schools saluting flags & singing the national anthem in no time – at gunpoint if necessary. Radio NZ are to be applauded for allowing sensible people like Dame Anne a platform to remind us that some good things came out of Europe in the 1930s – if we care to look hard. Paula Bennett is.

Yes Jeremy, Maori & Polynesians are over-represented in prisons and you never hear their communities showing any signs of gratefulness that their young men are getting good food and dry housing – unlike those roaming free around South Auckland neighbourhoods looking for windows to climb in.

As long as their climbing in their own windows, and not travelling North as that lovely Melissa Lee warned us they would, Beverley.
