Gaddafi dead
Celebrations in Libya following the announcement of Gaddafi's death. This is the end of his remnant regime's dwindling resistance. One of his sons vowed that they would live and die in Libya and that's proved correct. The civil war has taken about 8 months to come to this stage and with his death in Sirte the war will surely end with the surrender of what is left.

I doubt this point would have been possible without the NATO air cover - it probably would have been a stalemate otherwise. The West staying out and limiting itself to air strikes was the best thing, even if it did mean the war dragged on. The only positive thing about that length of time is that it has given the opposition time to work together constructively. Let's hope that carries on.

Indeed. Surprisingly the most objective media response in my view comes from that group of talking heads that present themselves on "One News" (your News.... remember: It's not about "Us"..yea - it's all about "YOU" - all that crap. From memory I think Qantas told me all that on some award, or some such other piss useless authoratative profile)

I write this whilst the ONE News ("YOUR" News bulletin) has moved on and is now talking about "Seminal Moments" FFS!... but in relation to rugby, rather than something that's a little more important.
Me thinks the "e"'s and "i"'s are being confused somewhere though whilst they are congratulating each other on "scoops" As ONE News goes to air, they're alltrying to figure out to spell seminal - Rest assured though they're all ejaculating like it was all some wank contest.

Gadaffi was is/was a cunt.
Nato did get his enterage in an air strike as he was trying to shoot through from Sirte - but so too did the "rebels" (get him).
A Freedom Fighter ("Rebel", new-regime-transitional-council-"nobody", Gadaffi army defector, body guard turned bad - whoever...) dealt to him!
THe young 20yr old "rebel" called Mohamed Abibi (however ya spell it) told it as it happened. I admire him immensely!
Quite hard to understand why the 20 yr old's claims were met with such cynicism. He did see him in a "hole" - (Just that that "hole" in the ground was a drain pipe) - a "round" thing at his feet.
Fighters... the ones that got him WERE crying "no, no, no" as if to say "keep the cunt alive".
Oh Dear, How sad though.
This fucking media has become more concerned about their image and how people perceive them than they are about reporting what's happening.

But back to Libya. FFS! it has a population of about 6 mil. There are FEW that have not been adversley touched (as in having someone they know disappear, tortured, fucked over, etc. by Gadaffi or his enterage).
I'm happy for Libyans. I'm now even more cynical about our media (at least today's "media" - including the BBC for fucks sake who weren't even prepared to take their own correspondent's first-hand discussion as legit).
I also wonder how 40 or 50 years ago even (slightly before my time), NZ's media has prostituted itself in such a way to have become amongst the world's WORST, when it was once amongst the world's BEST.
I met ane employed journalist recently working for the electronic Meedya outlet THAT DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE FUCKING 4th ESTATE was!!!! There was once a 4th Estate press club in Hobson St Auck, that had intelligent conversations amongst one another even though they were getting pissed as they did.
Now all we've got is a bunch of egos wondering who is better than whom - is Dunc better than Gee-on? is he a poof or is (s)he? No he is, no she is. "Oh I feel sorry for his wife" blah blah fucking blah. They're lucky there's all that "what happens here stays here" bullshit is going on.
BOTH are as week as gnats piss and riding on their middle class wave of complacency.
