Chinese Consulate tells our Auckland Councilor not to attend show

The Chinese Communist Consulate has sent a letter to Auckland Supercity Councilor Dr. Cathy Casey requesting that she does not attend the forthcoming Shen Yun Performing Arts event at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, 3 - 5 February, Auckland.

This is a direct attempt to undermine and interfere with Shen Yun's performance.

Received an outrageous letter from the Chinese Consul General asking me to stay away from "Shen Yun" at ASB Theatre (3rd and 5th Feb) because "Falun Gong is an anti-society cult" propogating "cultic" and "heretical" anti-Chinese ideas. I resent this attempt by a Chinese diplomat to influence an elected member and have complained through the Diplomatic Corps

...someone has obviously not explained to China that they don't own us yet. Now are the dear old Falun Gong a bit wacky? Sure they are, who isn't these days? How wacky? They think their leader can glide/hover/levitate. Other than the usual wacky stuff spiritual religious groups believe in they're about as hazardous to social law and order as eating a carrot a day.

God knows why the Chinese Government have gone Veitchy on their arses, China seems to take glee in their out right cruelty, torture and persecution of the Falun Gong and that extends in an almost psychopathic way at anyone else who has anything to do with them. China can't bloody well tell our local politicians what artistic outing they can or can't go to.

I feel a letter coming on,

Dear China
Get over your big bad self and drop the beatings and violence against people whose only crime seems to be lots of silent meditation in public. If you want to do business with us, you are going to have to understand that we find you telling us what art we can or can't see REALLY offensive and serves only to make us think you are a bit of a cultural bully.

NZers don't like bullies (except the people of Epsom, they elect bullies).

If you want to build positive relationships with us, dump this crap.
