Pentagon lawyer claims Martin Luther King Jr would have supported Iraq War

King Might Understand Today’s Wars, Pentagon Lawyer Says
If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, would he understand why the United States is at war?
In the final year of his life, King became an outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War, Johnson told a packed auditorium. However, he added, today’s wars are not out of line with the iconic Nobel Peace Prize winner’s teachings. “I believe that if Dr. King were alive today, he would recognize that we live in a complicated world, and that our nation's military should not and cannot lay down its arms and leave the American people vulnerable to terrorist attack,” he said.

Monday was Martin Luther King Jrs Birthday, last week a Pentagon Lawyer declared that if Martin Luther King Jr were alive today he would support the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm sorry, what? The antiwar Martin Luther King Jr who fought for equality, justice and peace would not only support the illegal war in Iraq, but he would support America bombing an iron age civilization back into the stone age?

"I have a dream that one day my four children will be shipped off to the four corners of the globe to fight for the military industrial complex and rape third world countries for their oil. War at last, war at last, thank God Almighty that we have war at last' just doesn't have the same ring to it does it whanau?

Claiming Martin Luther King Jr would support war in Iraq and Afghanistan is like claiming Helen Clark would support getting busy with John Key on the desk of the UN Security Council.

'Lockheed Martin.......received $36 billion in government contracts in 2008 alone, more than any company in history.  It now does work for more than two dozen government agencies from the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy to the Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency.  It’s involved in surveillance and information processing for the CIA, the FBI, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the National Security Agency (NSA), the Pentagon, the Census Bureau, and the Postal Service.'
