John Key supports Mubarak

I'm sorry - WHAT? John Key supports Mubarak??? He supports a Dictator because he's worried a democratic Egypt would threaten Israel??? Since when did we support dictators for Israel?

I'm so very glad that the good people of Egypt are in the middle of over throwing their Western backed dictatorship. The West loves to talk freedom and democracy, but the hypercritical truth of course is that we want freedom and democracy FOR US not 'them'. 'Them' get dictatorships installed and told what to do.

I'm hopeful that the people of Egypt can pull away and form their own democracy, the problem is we in the West probably won't let that happen. The people of Algeria - where Ahmed Zaoui was an MP, tried democracy for the first time in the 90s and of course the moment it looked like an Islamic Party was going to win, the West kicked off a coup and Ahmed Zaoui fled. Hilariously Richard Woods (who is now jaw droppingly on the Independent Police Conduct Authority) wrongfully held Ahmed Zaoui in solitary confinement for 10 months, bad Ahmed for trying to implement democracy. Ahmed of course now runs a kebab shop in Palmerston North, so much for the most dangerous terrorist in NZ.

As far as the West is concerned, it's only democracy when the dictator we support wins.

I don't think it is the most likely outcome, but how would you feel if Egypt became a theocratic Islamist regime that executed apostates, adulterers and teenage victims of rape, and became a rival with Iran for being the 2nd biggest executor of its citizens? Does it not matter that the motto of some Islamists is democracy = one election, once? Does it not matter that Islamists would make a democratic Egypt as free and fair as Mubarak did, except you wouldn't want to be a coptic Christian, Jew or atheist in the open? Or are individual rights and fundamental freedoms only for polemicists in the West?

Assuming you don't really care if it trains terrorists, strangles the Suez Canal, wages war against Israel.

None of these condones Mubarak - but if you can't even understand why anyone would be concerned, then your interest in human rights is shallow indeed.

On the Islamist radicalization caused by Americas support of corrupt dictators. Your argument is deeply flawed "Liberty", I share your fear of religious extremism, so we should stop fueling it.

I love your view of 'liberty'. It is so tainted by fear of Islam it actually allows you to justify all sorts of atrocity doesn't it?

Why would radical Islam take over? Because of the grinding poverty and oppressive dictatorships the West keep propping up for cheap oil?

If a hard rain gotta fall Liberty, we made it, we reap what we sow.

The sooner the West stops propping up dictators the sooner those people can decide their own fate, using the Islamic bogeyman as your justification for oppressive regimes is utterly futile and will simply build righteous resentment towards the West.

You should rename yourself 'ExpedientScott' as 'LibertyScott' isn't really what you are about at all.

You should read about Aubrey Chernick and Koch Brothers "Liberty", just to aquatint yourself with who funds your Islamophobia.
