Cops chase the bored younger arsehole demographic

The NZ Police recruitment adverts were released last week with posters that say, 'Cops are like cougars ... they like 'em young, too', "Get paid more than your dad" and "We endorse queue cutting". The Police have defended such tasteless adverts as a way to cut through to a bored younger arsehole demographic.

The current TV Police recruitment advert aimed at the bored younger arsehole demographic features a car park attendant marking the car lanes smaller so that parking drivers can't open their doors without causing petty vandalism to each others paintwork.

Whanau, i think these crude adverts are simply too dull to get much cut through to the bored younger arsehole demographic and that if the Police want to attract their attention, just be honest.

Hey bored young arseholes. Want $50 k starting with a uniform, barely 3 months training, high speed chases where you can kill whom you like, use tasers whenever, binge drink every night in private police bars, indulge in a sexist culture that Dame Margaret Bazley confirmed last week hadn't been eliminated since the Clint Rickards trial? Then join the NZ Police dickhead.

See, that's how you get their attention, i'll forward my marketing invoice.

What would be your thoughts in regards to how police culture can actually be changed? Can it be changed? Where does that change come from. Agreed that this campaign is utterly stupid.

How about "Cops are like dirty old men...they like 'em young too". What a pathetic ad campaign, but in a way entirely appropos to a culture of systemic sexism and misogyny. My 17 year old son's experience with the police caused him to make the comment "they are no better than gangs mum". They reduced his friend to tears telling him how his family were losers and his brothers and sisters would be taken away by CYFS. A "compassionate" policewoman then belittled him by saying, "do you want a tissue little baby". Charming! My son now has lost any respect he may have held for the police.

Tara

@keriwi

Having truly independent and transparent oversight of the police with real powers to investigate, dismiss, and/or criminally prosecute the police would be a start.

Also getting rid of frontline availability of guns and tasers, making police bars (and all police institutions, actually) conform to (and indeed *exceed*) the normal legal standards, and doing more of that boring old community policing stuff.

Your son's experience with the boys in blue is not a rare one. Pigs are the worst gang of them all!
