Women forced into the kitchen to make inappropriate coconut rough

18 year old William Struthers won a trip to the United States and Canada to visit Lions clubs, talk about New Zealand, and present his winning speech.

His speech was about "women and why they should stay in the kitchen", I wonder if Aung San Suu Kyi who was released from 15 years home detention would follow Wills view on modern gender roles in the 21st century?

What's next from the Lion Club speech competition? 'Gay people shouldn't be allowed near children', 'Maori are so lazy' and 'Slavery, why Unions have it all wrong".

Perhaps the 'Lion Club's Young Speechmaker of the year' should be renamed the 'Paul Henry Supporters Memorial Gated Community Award for Tolerance'?

Speaking of inappropriate things, a Pacific Island Labour Party volunteer in the Mana electorate called the National Party candidate on their Facebook site a "dumb ass coconut".

This was explained away as simply 'Pacific Island humor' which is bullshit, this isn't 'Pacific Island humor' at all, this is called "pretending to cover the real issues for the voters of Mana by pettily focusing on what some worker ant posts on their Facebook site". I thought the voters of Mana were concerned about jobs and why this Government is letting them down by not creating any employment while slashing welfare.

Apparently not.

The voters of Mana are supposedly more concerned with Facebook updates.

Great to see your well informed piece of social criticism based on a MSM headline. Have you heard his speech, have a transcript of what he actually said? Looks like a beat-up story to me. There are no quotes in that Stuff article, just a broad summary.

You really think bigotry would be rewarded by a prize?

It's a speech competition and I'd expect the winner to go to someone with a challenging unconventional argument with well-expressed points.

Would you like to argue the counterpoint, that children have no need of loving and caring women in their domestic lives?

Trying to sweep the dumbass coconut comment under the carpet by saying it by saying that the person who made the comment is a "worker ant" is nothing short of disingenuous.

Litea Ah Hoi, who made the comment is a Porirua Councillor and was the deputy mayor - hardly some bag carrying flunky.

This is a free country, people should be be able to vote for who they want with out bullying and abuse - racial or otherwise - from people in positions of power like Ah Hoi.

Hungry Bear you are right, that was disingenuous, i should have said 'stupid worker ant'.

Josh, bigotry got most of ACT elected, winning a speech competition by an old boy club isn't so much of a stretch for witty satire.
