It is incumbent upon parliament to seek advice urgently from the waitangi tribunal about whether all legislation is contrary to the principles of the treaty of waitangi, specifically section 8 of the act in 1975 which provides for parliament referring any bill before the house to the tribunal first for it to report back to the house whether it is contrary to those principles.
