LEN BROWN WINS BY LANDSLIDE! Seachange for Auckland
Len Brown wins Super City election
Len Brown has won the contest to be the first Mayor of the Auckland Super City.
The Manukau Mayor beat his rival Auckland City Mayor John Banks with about 95 per cent of the votes counted.
Mr Brown polled 221,167 votes, compared to 161,167 votes for Mr Banks, a victory by 60,198 votes, according to the first progress result declared after the polls closed at midday.
It's a landslide, a god damned landslide. The seachange in Auckland is back to the left, 2011 is on and the brainfart cheapo public opinion telephone polls the mainstream media rely on claiming the race was originally so close can now be called into question.
The exit polls told a completely different story to the brainfart cheapo public opinion telephone polls claiming the two were neck and neck which also now calls into question the very same brainfart cheapo public opinion telephone polls claiming National has over 50% of the vote. Conservative public opinion is what is being reflected in those public opinion polls, not the total public opinion for reasons such as landline vs cellphone calls and weighting issues.
John Banks said he could prevent Len Brown from replicating South Auckland if only Central Aucklanders would get and and vote. Well I live in Central Auckland John, and I didn't vote for your race baiting crap you sad old fart, go back to watching Paul Henry in the mornings for election strategy.
Well done Len, now for the real work, to stop National and ACT's corporate chums appointed to the CCO's from privatizing Auckland's assets.
A great day for Aucklanders who want a diverse city that doesn't stoop to cheap racist divisive politics as represented by John Banks.
I really want Bill Ralston and Michelle Boag to stay on advising the National Party election strategy for 2011.

Billy Bor Ralston and Michelle alone? Nah - get someone like Frannypants Wilde in there as well so they can claim a little degree of legitimacy to their ideological stance.
After all ...she's "fair and balanced".
Surprise surprise!. Ditto parker and Anderton. Nothing yet on Wellington. But it may take anoteher round of kerry and Rex playing dress-ups before Wellingtonians realise - well if so, more fool them!
I'm happy to leave for points either slightly north or far West as a consequence. Just don;t let me hav to put up with a Mt Vic resident chiming in with "Oh how dreadful" at the shit ehy'll be confronted with.
Besides...I look kinda cute in a nurse uniform anyway - I can slut my stuff as good as the next bullshit artist
So where does CHCH fit into your analysis?
Long term local labour MP fails to take victory.
As far as your 'seachange' (which will probably come back to haunt your once more in 2011) ignoring one result while uttering a victory over another doesn't really cut in terms of political analysis. You just see what you want to see.

Ummmm - you might have noticed a tiny thing called the 7.1 magnitude earthquake anon. You did see that pop up in the news right? The well known and academically examined phenomena known as the 'bump' occurred in Christchurch. I'm surprised you wouldn't know about it before commenting.

a 60 000 vote lead is a spanking anon, after all that hard work by National and ACT to set the Super City up for the right, it can't be a happy day for the right.

LMAO -No anon, ignoring the earthquake as the reason for Bob Parker's win in Christchurch suggests it is you who is seeing what you want to see.
Hopefully the National Party shares your hubris.
Tell you what I am not the biggest fan of LB but any thing is better than having that lemon Banks back in I can't think of anything worse then having him as Mayor so I am happy with this result
"Hopefully the National Party shares your hubris.
If you of all people start accusing others of hubris I know that there is something very wrong in the world.
PS checked out cactus kates latest offering? I'd be interested in your reply that is if you actually have one.
Who cares about the Len Brown win,he has to do the job yet. LOL. You will probably see John back in another 3 years.

Dirty, filthy Cactus Kate hasn't had much to crow about after watching her beloved Rodney Hide destroy himself, so she has turned to making up false accusations and scandalous lies. I NEVER said the quote re Pansy Wong that she is attributing to me. I have emailed Cactus Kate directly AND I have posted on her blog that she has maligned me by mis-attributing Tim's comments re Pansy Wong to me. I have given Kate Tim's email to verify if the comments are his and demand she takes down the disgusting smear she has launched against me. I never said those things regarding Pansy Wong, Tim did.
Nah, while I'm stoked as anyone that Len won, it's just wishful thinking to say it's a "sea change".
Fact is everyone specifically voted for Brown because he was basically the only viable way to keep Banks out, and you don't have to be left wing want that.

So, so true. Oh well, at least Banks is out.
The super city was tailor made by the nats specifically for banks.
Now it belongs to brown!
Lol!
It was hilarious to watch the news and see the expression of scorn on keys face, with key's half assed attempt to congratulate len brown!
Lol!
