It's not rape, it's an 'acute event'

Government's miracle cure comes with a hidden cost
As a nation, we have gone from helping almost 94 per cent of sexual abuse victims almost a decade ago to not helping almost 90 per cent of them today. Talk about re-victimising the victim. More than half of ACC claims for sexual abuse counselling are now being turned down outright.

It is an astoundingly cruel policy for the National Party to run with where they have claimed rape as an 'acute event' which doesn't cause any mental illness that they will fund through ACC.

How can we as a nation accept that in any way shape or form? A person who has been sexually assaulted or abused requires counselling, to be told that they aren't 'mental enough' by this Government to get counselling because they had 'an acute event' is jaw dropping in its ignorance and viciousness to people who require empathy and support.

This social policy by National is disgusting, nasty and needlessly cruel!
