National Party Board of Director's old boy gets appointed to the NZ Venture Investment Fund

From the Jobs for the Boys file
... Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee announces the appointment of two new directors to the board of the New Zealand Venture Investment Fund. One of them is Christchurch businessman Roger Bridge, who, according to Brownlee's press release, has a property investment and management background. The press release says Bridge has been involved in the formation and development of new business ventures, is a member of the Institute of Directors and is on the board of the Christchurch Arts Festival Trust. It neglects to mention that Bridge is also on the National Party's board of directors and is chairman of the party's Canterbury-Westland region, which includes Brownlee's Christchurch electorate of Ilam.

Ummmm - why isn't this headline news? Brownlee appoints the chairman of his region to the NZ Venture Investment Fund, and the guy just happens to also be on the National Party's board of directors? Didn't National raise merry hell when Labour appointed flunkies to roles far less important than the Venture Investment Fund?

If Labour had pulled this stunt it wouldn't have been a tiny article buried in the middle of nowhere, it would have been on the front page.

The National Business Review had, during the last Labour led Governments, a wee spot called 'crony watch' wherein it listed what it considered political appointments for the Labour 'boys and girls'.

Is it still current in the NBR?

Probably cos we're so use to labour doing it ?

the difference is that Bridge actually has some useful abilities to bring to the role, whilst Labour only appointed people who liked kissing arses to get these sort of positions, who had no real-world experience at all.
