The Right wing privatization of education agenda
Govt asked to consider modified education vouchers
The Government is considering a modified version of the education voucher scheme for the worst and best performing students. A working group of MPs from National, ACT and the Maori Party has asked that parents of the 20 per cent worst performing and five per cent best performing students be given greater choice about how and where the child is educated and taking their Government funding with them. The group was set up under ACT and National's supply and confidence agreement and chaired by ACT deputy leader Heather Roy.
Well, well, well - look what we have here. The right wing privatization of education agenda, the joke about this is that it is so fucking obvious. All the money for National Standards is for measuring, there is no extra money to support your child if they are measured to be failing. The National Standards have nothing to do with raising the educational standards of children , it is to implement a league table which lo and behold under this new proposal would be the false injection of competition the right wing want to promote that allows the education vouchers to provide money to the private education industry.
The disgusting farce is that this is all being sold as 'choice'. It is an attack on the public education system of NZ, picking up where National left off after they were kicked out of Government in 1999 and it is aimed at benefiting National and ACTs mates in the private education industry.
The sheer full frontal attack by the right wing from the SuperCity, to attacking MMP, to allowing 3rd parties unlimited election spending etc etc etc can only work while the PM keeps waving and smiling, his appeal to vacant aspiration keeps NZers focused on the waving hand while the right hand robs them of our public institutions.
NZers were conned by the change Key promised last election, now we are seeing the real change National quietly wanted to implement all along. They are deceptive and their privatization ideas deeply flawed, the irony of implementing tax cut, free market, neoliberal deregulation to deal with a global economic crises caused by tax cut, free market, neoliberal deregulation is lost on the NZ mainstream media.

Not all schools are equal. Unfortunately, a kid going to say Grammar has a better head start to say Mangere college. Why not provide for some upward mobility, or do you think all schools are equal? If some of the poorer kids can get into the better schools, isnt that a good thing?
And what then are the implications for the other 75% of children when their underfunded state schools have even less resource as a byproduct of some of their funding leaving with this "upward mobility" to the private schools. Seems like another trickle up and subsidy for the elite! No all schools are not equal, but do you think giving less to those who need it and more to those who don't will help this?
But the decile funding system means that lower decile schools get more money. It simply isnt working. The bad schools arent getting any better
Odd that the govt injected $23M into private school, specifically so they would reduce their fees to make the school more accessible to lower income students, and the private school increased fees again this year. I'm afraid the "enable Mangere students get into Grammer" argument doesn't stack up with the evidence.
Not all schools are equal because not all schools have highly resourced families. But the national standards move to a more 'one size fits all' regime, and ACT's move to make this high stakes, will only exacerbate the current achievement situation. Providing specialist academies to meet individual student needs might work if it was funded and they were near where students live. But it appears funding is going to come by reducing funding to 'normal' school places (even for the students they retain - 1/3 of education funding payable on meeting standards), and, as we have learned from ECE, specialist academies will go where the $$ are. Which won't be Mangere.
Unfortunately, a kid going to say Grammar has a better head start to say Mangere college. Grammer?
The silly thing is that Israel wouldn’t have to steal other peoples passports and sneak around murdering people if people weren't prepared like fran o'sullivan is to lend them a hand?
"Christian" If you are suggesting I am helping Israel steal passports and murder people I suggest you call a lawyer.
And suggest also the publishers of this blog exercise some due care on this re such allegations.
