Crony Capitalism in Health

Long waits for blood tests anger patients
Patients are facing waits of up to 40 minutes - and allegedly much longer - to have blood tests at Auckland's new laboratory service. GPs, and a manager at outgoing community laboratory contractor Diagnostic Medlab (DML), say patients report waiting up to two hours for blood tests in the morning at new contractor Labtests.

I love how these rich pricks get to sit on the board that makes the decision about a multi-million dollar contract that his company tenders for and magically gets, that now cuts back on the service provided to the public to the point that lives are at risk. I also love how the corporate news media now don’t even point out how the contract was won by a board member who was sitting on the decision making body that awarded the contract to his company, they just refer to it as ‘highly contested’ as in the invasion of Iraq was just ‘highly contested’.

I detest crony capitalism and its lackey corporate news media.

And I love how people like you Bomber fall for the desperate PR campaign by a company that lost an "unlosable" tender.

Has the media ran a story every time DML stuffed up a blood sample or made a patient wait (for a taxpayer subsidised system) longer than 30 minutes? Nope. Just the odd time.

You can wait far more than 40 minutes or even two hours these days at a private A&E clinic at the wrong time (like after hours and weekends) even when you have bloody private insurance or as I realised recently - when you are paying $100 as an international patient again fully insured. That's how shit the whole medical system is.

SIGH - Kate you are my favourite right wing blogger, I always dig our tango, have you moved on from dumping property rights to give the Police any reason to arrest you in your home (especially if you are black?). While it may well be in the interests of the DML to push the current failings of this system, it doesn't detract from my point about crony capitalism and how a board member was allowed to pitch for a deal his company directly profited from, that is outright corruption. Perhaps only you and Ayn Rand support that?

When the contract was won in such an underhand manner, the media like to take notice.

Perhaps that would be a valid point to make if this post was about the the time it took to get blood, but it's not, it's about crony capitalism.
