Sir Douglas wants more

I'm entitled, says Douglas
Sir Roger Douglas says he is entitled to a holiday in Britain at the taxpayers' expense. The ACT MP, who has been vocal in his demands for the Government to cut public spending and for Kiwis to tighten their belts during the recession, has one of the highest airfare bills among MPs.

Entitled Sir Douglas? Entitled? Isn’t it fascinating to have the man who wants microscopic government and wants to slash, slash, slash public costs talk about travel subsidies he and his wife can take while going on overseas holidays – remember Sir Rodger wasn’t on Government business, he went on a holiday. Now personally I don’t have much of a beef with the expenses Politicians can get in NZ, it’s not an easy job and they are our representatives, but to have an extreme right wing politician like Rodger bloody Douglas who has screamed to the high heavens about costs and perks wanting to slash them all take those very same costs and perks and tell us he’s ‘entitled’ is just a joke too far.

Funny how Rodger is entitled to more from the public purse but the 1000 NZers joining the dole each week aren’t ‘entitled’ to anything more than subsistence living. So much for those ACT values.

I saw this article this morning and was absolutely flabbergasted. You're right Bomber, this is just a travesty. $44,000 - what do you reckon? Two people on the dpb for a year?

He's a simple beneficiary now, but I'm sure the irony will be lost on him. Hypocite.
Bomber, you have expressed my views perfectly.

When we heard Douglas was an ACT candidate last election I said " there he goes, can't keep his greedy snout out of the public trough ".

He has always fed from the taxpayers trough, he's a greedy self serving pig of a man, a hypocrite and a bludger.

That he has the word " Sir" in front of his name is bad enough - there is NOTHING noble about this snout on trotters - now he is using words like " entitled".

An odious, grasping hypocrite.

I guess these talking anuses people call MPs are entitled to some travel (fuck, you can't expect them to catch an intercity bus, can you?) but wart-lipped Rodger Cuntlas should have had the grace to shut the fuck up instead of queefing on about his entitlement.
It's Friday and that's pronounced as "fourteen dollar two- litre bottle of homebrew bourbon".

When I saw this on the news last night I nearly choked, the hypocracy is beyond belief of this man. Go back to 1980s RD, we dont want you anymore.

but its no different to all other MP's who have sat for a term of 3 years or more. perhaps the system should be changed huh? he's just taking what he's entitled to have.

Does someone know what the rules are around MP's getting free travel for private expenditure? It seems crazy that taxpayers have to fork out benefits to what essentially are ex employees of the state. I wouldn't begrudge Douglas taking what he is entitled to but the issue is whether MP's should be entitled to these sorts of benefits. My view NO!

The only thing Douglas should be entitled to is public Euthenasia!

So when you work in a job you should refuse to take any benefits offered by that job, is that what people are saying here?

When you preach so strongly about self reliance, you don't rely on handouts from others for your holidays.
Or are your principles flexible too.
