What is it with the Catholic Church and raping children?

Harrowing Irish church abuse revealed
For decades, thousands of Irish children suffered soul-crushing lives of forced labour, beatings and molestation in spartan institutions run by Roman Catholic religious orders. Campaigners for the abused believe that a measure of justice may finally be arriving - despite the church's best efforts to keep the past a secret. The Commission to Inquire Into Child Abuse is publishing a 2575-page report after a nine-year investigation repeatedly delayed by church lawsuits, missing documentation and alleged government obstruction. Its experts have sought to produce a comprehensive portrait of sexual, physical and emotional damage inflicted on children consigned to the country's defunct network of reformatories, workhouses, orphanages and other church-run institutions from the 1930s to 1990s. Most of the children were ordered into church care because of school truancy, petty crimes or because they were the offspring of unwed mothers. Many faced regimes of terror involving ritual beatings and intimidation. But until the investigation came along, thousands of survivors said they had nowhere safe to tell their stories - because swathes of Irish Catholic society sought to label them liars.

Is it because there isn’t an 11th commandment that states ‘Thou shalt not rape children’ that confuses so many within the Catholic Church? While the Pope wanders dazed and confused around the planet telling people not to use condoms, his Church in Ireland has just aired some very dirty laundry. What I don’t get is that if I hid rapes and actively covered them up, I’d get charged as an accomplice so why the hell shouldn’t the Catholic Church who did the exact same fucking thing be charged with being an accomplice to thousands of rapes and beatings, because as the report shows, the Catholic Church (aided by a religiously compliant population) hid the abuse meted out by their ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’. Using children as forced slave labour made money for these pricks, and that money needs to be paid back with interest on top of charges against Church leaders, once that has happened then these sanctimonious fucks can go back to lecturing us on how good they are and how evil we heathens are.

I’ve got plenty of time for God, I just can’t stand his followers.

Good to see you're aware enough to relise these prosecutions have come from a new era of awareness and openess. Like our SIS admimissions of following 12yr old girls. This is a 'good' sign for the future and an admission of past wrongs.

Might want to think about how quickly you've equated homosexuality and pedophilia.

"I’ve got plenty of time for God, I just can’t stand his followers."

What if this true of everyone,
I'm sick of being lumped in with everyone.
I don't fuck children, or beat them up, or for the sake of the new evangelical style church I don't emotionally manipulate them and make them weird.
Nor do I, in any way, condone that sort of behaviour and agree completely if they are found to be covering this behaviour up they deserve to be punished.
I don't hate gay's?!!!?!!! and think that whole arguement is actually just not logical.
I'm soooooo sick of the "Brian Tamaki's" being used as spokesman for "christians" in NZ, who asked us? The guy is a moron.
I'm sure I do stupid things and have stupid opinions but not because I'm catholic, because I'm human
NZ should be leading the world in tolerance to everyone's beliefs...
The scary thing is I think we are.

LMAO - yes anon I'm too 'scared' to ask that question, please tell me you have more to defend Catholics systematically raping children for decades than trying to have a go at Maaaaoris

Do you reckon Catholics think it better to rape children than go blind from masterbation?

How's that for hypocrisy?

NS

"I’ve got plenty of time for God, I just can’t stand his followers."Acknowledging there is an invisible man in secret corners gives the crazies reason to do what they do Bomber.
Whether it be murder of a person who believes in another or no invisible man at all, get behind a war either in the name of the invisible man or the morals he has given us all in his ancient book of scribbles written by a society that believed the world was flat and the sun was only a few 1000 miles away, the molestation of young boys knowing that just by confessing to god what you've done you will be forgiven, suicide bombings and most importantly the protesting against advances in science.

You have only yourself to blame Bomber.

Let's deal with the root of the problem folks.

It's not that there's molestation going on by the church, its that there is a fucking church in the first place!

It's not the fault that churches/religion exists, it's the fault of humanity for inventing it.

Therefore, the fault is not with the church, but with humanity.

Not all men are rapists, likewise not all catholic priests are rapists, but all rapists are human.

Which would be fine but the Church in this case hid these facts for decades, sure all humans are capable opf rape, but it takes a special kind of hypocritical evil to try and hide it for decades upon decades upon decades.

Luke just seems to get stupider with each post. A while back he was trying to convince us all of something and linked to The Onion as proof a week or two ago he tried to tell us the gunman Jan Molenar was harming no one but himself -right after he gunned down 4 people.

Now he's blaming Bomber for the existence of Catholic kiddy fiddlers - I don't think even Legio X accused Bomber of anything quite so insane.

Have you ever heard of Communism Luke? The Soviet Union and other communist states promoted state atheism and opposed religion.

Tens of millions of people died under regimes following this murderous ideology - either starved or worked to death or just plain strung up for displeasing those in power.

Humans don't need religion to inspire them to do horrific deeds, they manage pretty well on their own.

The onion, fuck that was embarrassing! Haha that's what happens when you don't think straight and through folks. I had good reason to believe that story though, it had happened before.

The gunman was obviously cracked, he spent the last six years with mild depression after his friends suicide, he was aggravated and went into a psychotic state before taking his own life. He was obviously not thinking straight, no one in their right mind would just gun down 4 people for no reason, once he had done it, he had no thought but to take his own life to "have a drink" with his deceased friend...

Oh yes I'm obviously directly blaming Bomber for child fiddling...moron.
Im trying to point out the destruction an idea such as the belief in an invisible man with no evidence what so ever, can have on society. It harbors crazies and slows down our advances in science and understanding the true reasons behind why everything is that it is and how it works.

Yes communists opposed religion because it was a mode of control, yet Stalin's atrocities were influenced not by atheism but by his dogmatic and doctrinaire Marxism, and conjectured that Stalin's early religious training at an Orthodox seminary may have taught him to revere absolutist faith, strong authority, and a belief that the ends justify the means.

Anon:
Humans don't need religion to inspire them to do horrific deeds, they manage pretty well on their own.EXACTLY THE POINT I MADE AT THE BEGINNING YOU MORON.

Without religion there would be good people and bad people. WITH religion it gives more reason for people to commit evil deeds because of their BLIND FAITH! Not faith, because faith is the belief in something because of previous evidence but blind faith, which is religion, is really fucking dangerous!

Rangi, nice input.

The problem of sexual abuse of minors seems to be a major human problem. I was looking at some stats here in the States. The United States Department of Education estimates 4.5 million children in PUBLIC schools have been abused sometime from kindergarten to senior year of high school. In just one state, Connecticut, 112 public school teachers/coaches have lost their licenses for the same infraction since 1992. In the same time period and state, only 3 priests were accussed. So, the stats show this is a terrible, terrible human problem. Please don't point the finger at the Church or religion.
