Zionist-Tory hypocrisy from a smug, self-deluded speck.
The pro-Israel American press coverage of the Iranian President's speech in Geneva to the UN's anti-racism conference is so biased I'm not going to even link to it let alone quote it. Better from the Guardian:
Dozens of diplomats, including Britain's UN ambassador in Geneva, walked out of a speech by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad this afternoon when the Iranian president accused Israel of being "a totally racist" regime.
The address at a UN conference on racism in Geneva was disrupted by protesters who heckled Ahmadinejad after he branded Israel a "cruel and oppressive racist regime". He said the state of Israel was created "on the pretext of Jewish suffering" from the second world war.
Peter Gooderham, the UK ambassador to the UN in Geneva, walked out along with representatives from France, Spain and several other European countries. One shook his fist at the Iranian president as he left. The delegates said they planned to return to the session as soon as Ahmadinejad had finished speaking.
NZ didn't even attend because we had signed off on the American-Israeli agenda well in advance. One in the pocket for the Yanks.
Problem is though, what he said, it's all true isn't it? The Jewish State is set up for Jews - quite specifically to benefit them as a race and a religion - and they carry out massacres in refugee camps (like they did earlier this year) in order to carry out the colonial/land confiscation/occupation/subjugation template upon which Zionism has been practiced. That's all true isn't it - no matter how you cut it. So he said it at the right place but he said it at the wrong time - Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day gave the extra pressure on Poland and Germany to cave. NZ was not there to even listen.
Doing the bidding of the Americans and the Israelis at international conferences. I wonder how we voted on the Suez crisis? The officals and the politicians who conspired with the Americans, the British, and the Canadians - these Anglo colonial regimes built on the back of forced land occupation and population transfer to achieve their political and ideological/race objectives - who have done the bidding of the Jewish State in boycotting dialogue and criticism of their wars and massacres and agenda, those officials and politicians should resign or be sacked.
It doesn't matter how you blow up the NZ ego with Willem Dafoe and his beer ads telling us that we stuck it to the Yanks. They pull our chain at the UN with or without their two chums, Britain and Israel, helping. (They certainly seemed to have helped each other with nuclear policy without having to steal that much directly off America at any rate). We are in the same category as Canada and Australia - in our boycotts and international crisis alignments as regards the US-Israel axis - unquestionably so in times of right wing/conservative political leadership.
Was it a coincidence that at the time of the Australia-US trade deal the Howard government started voting with the US and Israel to cover up their war crimes and human rights abuses? They sometimes had the dignity of being joined in these votes against Israel by the one or two federated type states of Microbudgetia that enjoy the comfort of the greenback-lined inside jacket pocket of Uncle Sam. When the free trade deal is dangled in front of him (at the end of a very long line held by the US Senate and their APAC contributors) he goes and starts defending the right of Israel to wage an aggressive war of occupation against the Palestinians as a subject people. Is NZ going to be bought off with the illusion of a potential future trade deal? Or is it even less than that? Is it zero?
NZ diplomats sat through Bush Jr at the UN threaten the entire world by saying that if you were not behind America you would be defined as a terrorist. They sat through all manner of defences and bullying connected to the Anglo-American Nuremberg "aggressive war" criminal invasion of Iraq. A war NZ quickly sanctioned thereafter by granting the US - via the UN - occupation rights and then Helen sends in the troops to serve under the British getting them out when the going got hard. They appeased Indonesia over their genocide in East Timor even when a Kiwi was executed by them, and they continue to back them in West Papua as they strip it of resources and use population migration to colonise them. The Solomon Islands falls to pieces and MFAT does nothing - the Australians took the initiative in finally doing something about that - not us. These maggots even chaired sessions of the UN Security Council while the genocide in Rwanda was being reported by its staff and we did... nothing. NZ=nil.
We did what we were told to do. As we always do. Keeping the American nukes away is actually a domestic policy, so excluding that, what's our international record? zip. The last big thing the NZ govt. did in relation to the UN - apart from promote Helen Clark to it - was vote against the indigenous rights declaration with the other Anglo-American colonial regimes, just as what happened in Geneva - Israel pulling the strings this time.
The idea that New Zealand is some sort of principled and independent international actor was, is and as long as the Minister for Foreign Affairs still has the rugby ball that was used in the 1987 All Black World Cup victory implanted in replace of his brain - always will be - a nation of self-deluded, smug, colonial doormats.
Our foreign policy is as unsubstantial as our military. They're like a pair of chocolate dildos we made at cooking class - the guests might feign interest in the novelty value, but we all know that if we actually had to use them they would melt away before the crucial point. At the present time - egged on by the Americans - we are going to insert one of those chocolate dildos up the Khyber - an irritable hole already filled with tough Afghans. The other, I'm sad to say, has replaced the foot in our mouth at the Swiss inter-racial where it climaxed in a disgusting act on the floor in front of everyone and the camera (see video). An abuse of that organ was quite extraordinary (it did not help that the Iranians were clapping during this as it sent mixed signals). This will leave the Arab participants with a bad taste in their mouth considering how deeply they take these things.
18 Comments:
Actually our Special forces are well regarded in Western military circles as evidenced by the request to redeploy them to Afghanistan.
As for the UN talkfest on Rascism, frankly when Islamic nations start berating countries for abhorent behaviour then that points out the correctness of the decision to stay away.
That's all you have to say as a critique of Tim's blog Gossy? Very quiet of you, well said Mr Selwyn.
"...we are going to insert one of those chocolate dildos up the Khyber - an irritable hole already filled with tough Afghans."
Its a recipe for disaster.
One can hardly blame ordinary New Zealanders for their complacency in the face of McCully's massive blunder.
For years the media have maliciously planted words in Ahmadinejad's mouth.
If the media had correctly reported Ahmadinejad's words:
"the regime occupying Jerusalem will pass from the page of time"
....and his actual stance vis a vis the Holocaust:
"If such a thing happened, it happened in Europe - why are the Palestinian people forced from their homes and land with no compensation as a result"
http://www.mohammadmossadegh.com/news/caught-red-handed/
http://www.counterpunch.org/tilley08282006.html
.... instead of slavishly repeating the "Wipe Israel off the map" mistranslation and branding him a Holocaust denier
....perhaps he would get a fair hearing.
Furthermore, if the media gave equal time to Benny Morris, one of Israel's foremost Zionist historians:
(My book) .."is based on many documents that were not available to me when I wrote the original book, most of them from the Israel Defense Forces Archives. What the new material shows is that there were far more Israeli acts of massacre than I had previously thought. To my surprise, there were also many cases of rape. In the months of April-May 1948, units of the Haganah [the pre-state defense force that was the precursor of the IDF] were given operational orders that stated explicitly that they were to uproot the villagers, expel them and destroy the villages themselves."
http://www.logosjournal.com/morris.htm
...McCully's response to this conference would be seen for what it is - a shameful abdication of his duty to truth and humanity.
McCully is not an ordinary New Zealander. As a Minister of the Crown, he has a duty to become informed. If he reacts only to what he reads in the papers, he is incompetent. If he has not read the Israeli historians he is neglecting his responsibilities. If he has indeed read these accounts and continues to support Israel, he owes us an explanation.
So, brewer, do you think Islamic states a paragons of virtue, and are able to berate other nations from a high moral ground?
Hate to be a Journalist in Iran.
Hate to be a blogger in Iran.
Hate to be a homosexual in Iran.
Hate to be a women in Iran.
Hate to be a Jew in Iran...
As of October 2005, there are estimated to be about 700,000 Iranian blogs (out of an estimated total of 100 million worldwide, of which about 40,000-110,000 are active, mostly written in Persian, the Iranian language).
There are also many weblogs written by Iranians in English and other languages. Most of them, though, belong to expatriates who live in North America, Europe, Japan, etc. Iran is the third largest country of bloggers.
Although Iran and Israel are bitter enemies, few know that Iran is home to the largest number of Jews anywhere in the Middle East outside Israel.
About 25,000 Jews live in Iran and most are determined to remain no matter what the pressures - as proud of their Iranian culture as of their Jewish roots.

Public hanging in Iran
Human Rights Watch: IRANIAN TEENS WERE HANGED FOR RAPE, NOT GAY SEX But Questions Remain

Iran
Asia
The two male teenagers hanged in Mashad, Iran, July 19 were executed not for having sex with each other, as has been reported, but for raping a 13-year-old boy, Human Rights Watch is claiming.

Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution Iran became an Islamic Republic. During this era of Islamist rule Iranian women have had more opportunity in some areas and more restrictions in others. One of the striking features of the revolution was the large scale participation of women from traditional backgrounds in demonstrations leading up to the overthrow of the monarchy. Large numbers of women entered the civil service and higher education,[20] and in 1996 fourteen women were elected to the Islamic Consultative Assembly. As of late 2006 nearly 70% of Iran's science and engineering students are women.[21] Women make up 27% of the Iranian labor force, and the percentage of all Iranian women who are economically active has more than doubled from 6.1% in 1986 to 13.7% in 2000.

The number of women graduating from Iran's universities is overtaking the number of men, promising a change in the job market and, with it, profound social change.

The ordinary Iranian people are by far the friendliest and most welcoming I've met in more than 20 years of travelling.

"do you think Islamic states a paragons of virtue"By no means but the day that McCully boycotts a conference because it is likely to be critical of Iran I shall be equally critical of him.
Question for you.
How would you like to be a Christian whistle blower in Israel?

"For years the media have maliciously planted words in Ahmadinejad's mouth."
Really, how good is your Farsi. Pretty much non-existent I'd say.
How is it that you only comment on anti-Israel posts? It's like you have a anti-semetic fetish.
Ahmadinejad is a homophobic war mongering idiot leading a brutal theocracy that crushes anyone promoting dissent from the Islamism of the regime.
You might want to give this bigoted fool time (he once denied there were homosexuals in Iran), but I am glad NZ didn't support his platform for his pet project - fighting Israel.
Sudan is a racist genocidal state, but he wont raise that will he - no because Iran isn't that nice to Arabs or Kurds or other minorities either - outside Tehran.
NZ and most countries accept the solution for Israel is two states side by side in peace. Ahmadinejad wants Israel removed.
The Arab world as well is deeply racist, as can be seen by its treatment of foreign labour that it imports, and grants virtually no civil rights to.
Scott: I want Israel wiped off the map too - wiped off the map, but not in the way the Jewish state has wiped the Palestinians off the map. It should not be a brutal occupation of Israeli territory to bring self-security the way the Jewish state does to the Palestinians. Not like that. The Bosnian compromise at Dayton kept the one country with the one citizenship - they rejected a two or three state solution because it would have forever legitimised the warfare and the ethnic cleansing (more than it had already). South Africa did not have to be split up - and it's more racist than Israel... ?
Yet the mantra for this supposedly consensus binary of "Two-state solution" stems from the unilateral declaration of a Jewish state in the 1948 and its immediate recognition by the USA. From that point we come to the Israelis trying to wring every last acre out of the besieged and occupied subject race before the UN kicks them out or the Americans stop backing them and then they can lock it into a Treaty. Conquest complete. The policy of people like Lieberman (who is now Foreign Minister of the Jewish State) is to herd the Palestinians into Jordan - what is that if not a policy of wiping Palestine off the map.
...is to herd the Palestinians into Jordan - what is that if not a policy of wiping Palestine off the mapIf you look at the maps prior to 1922 you'd see that what we no call Jordan made almost all of what was then called Palestine. Why is it that We don't see Palestinians calling for the the return of that land?

Stupid Stunt to Silence Meaningful Debate
By Stuart Littlewood
http://atheonews.blogspot.com/2009/04/stupid-stunt-to-silence-meaningful.html
Tim: Bosnia is one state in name, The Republika Srbska is an ethnically cleansed nationalist entity that doesn't let the Sarajevo government exercise any control over its territory.
Israel was formed under a UN mandate in 1948 with full support of the UN Security Council at the time. It was a mistake at the time, but Jews had been promised a homeland by the previous colonial power for decades. It is a mistake like splitting India was a mistake, but should Pakistan be eliminated too?
Israel is a liberal democratic open society that needs to be more secularised, and has major parties pushing for that. Sadly it just elected a government that doesn't. None of Israel's neighbours have anything close to a fully functioning open democracy yet.
Israel was happy with the original UN mandate plan, its neighbours were not, Israel was then happy with the 1948 armistice lines, its neighbours were not. Egypt and Jordan never granted a Palestinian state for the Gaza and West Bank. In 1967 they got burnt and Israel took far more territory for self defence, and handed the Sinai back in exchange for peace.
The history is far more complex than you are suggesting. The PLO recognises a two state solution, as do most UN member states - but if you want to align yourself with a man running a brutal theocratic autocracy that murders political opponents, homosexual, teenage girls who have sex and others who commit "crimes against Islam", feel free.
Palestinians should have a right to return to their homes, and if they cannot they should be compensated. However you cannot fix a wrong by doing another wrong. To some extent Palestinians have had leaders who squandered fortunes and done nothing for economic development.
Gaza could have been a chance to be a free trade and enterprise zone of peace, but Hamas made it a site to wage war - so it is hardly surprising the reaction.
Israel was formed under a UN mandate in 1948 with full support of the UN Security Council at the time. Not true. The U.N approved a plan for partition on November 29, 1947 then rescinded it:
The plan was approved by a vote of 33 to 13, with 10 abstentions. On March 5, 1948, the United Nations Security Council reached an impasse when it refused to pass a resolution which would have accepted the partition plan as a basis for Security Council action.[2] The United States subsequently recommended a temporary UN trusteeship for Palestine "without prejudice to the character of the eventual political settlement"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1947_UN_Partition_Plan
After implementing Plan Dalet and ethnic cleansing the first 250,000 Palestinians, Ben Gurion unilaterally declared Statehood on May 15 1948. He knew it would mean war and the "fog of war" would cloak the expulsion of the indigenous people. These historical facts are documented by Israeli Historians Tom Segev, Benny Morris, Ilan Pappe and others.
Jews had been promised a homeland by the previous colonial power for decades.Yes, and a "homeland" was all they were promised. What was proposed was the orderly assimilation of Jews into Palestinian society. Statehood was expressly ruled out. The 1922 British White Paper states unequivocally:
Nor does the special position assigned to the Zionist Organization in Article IV of the Draft Mandate for Palestine imply any such functions. That special position relates to the measures to be taken in Palestine affecting the Jewish population, and contemplates that the organization may assist in the general development of the country, but does not entitle it to share in any degree in its government.http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/mideast/brwh1922.htm
Israel was happy with the original UN mandate planBen Gurion for one, was not:
"after the formation of a large army in the wake of the establishment of the state, we shall abolish partition and expand to the whole of Palestine."-Tom Segev, "One Palestine Complete: Jews and Arabs under the British Mandate", Metropolitan Books, 14 November 2000, p. 403
Nor Menachim Begin:
"The Partition of Palestine is illegal. It will never be recognized .... Jerusalem was and will for ever be our capital. Eretz Israel will be restored to the people of Israel. All of it. And for Ever." (The Iron Wall By Avi Shlaim p. 25)
but if you want to align yourself with a man running a brutal theocratic autocracy that murders political opponents, homosexual, teenage girls who have sex and others who commit "crimes against Islam", feel free.
I would be interested to see your evidence for these assertions.
Palestinians should have a right to return to their homes, and if they cannot they should be compensated. Please direct me to a source that evidences one instance of Israel even discussing such a proposal.
Tim:
Your language in the post and in your comment betrays either a lack of sensitivity or something far darker. Either way, it detracts from your more reasoned remarks on a number of issues, to the point that you appear closer to the serial antisemetic weirdo Brewerstroupe than to a critic of Israel.
Tumeke boycott a red herring
I will not be joining the Tumeke boycott instigated by Whaleoil and now supported by Something should go here, maybe later and its stablemate Keeping Stock.
