BREAKING NEWS: Volcanic eruption in Tonga - pictures

Aviation sources reporting that an ash plume is affecting the airspace in the South Pacific following an eruption (in progress) that began this morning. Scienceblogs reporting pictures available now on Keizo blog:

I am at tongatapu airport…. just flew in from vava’u, and pilots pointed this out. Apparently it just popped up today! Near Hunga Tonga… you can see it in the photo. approx coordinates S 20º 27′ 73″ W 175º 25′ 61″ given to me by the pilots. These are probably the first photos of it. The pilots said the earlier pilots said nothing, and these guys just saw it for the first time this flight.

Spectacular stuff.

Details of the location etc.

Anon 4:05 made me lol.

Fact: Volcanoes emit far, far more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than the amount caused by humans.

theory only - with the volcanic lineage sth -nthwest of the Tonga Groups and the Tonga Trench sth - ntheast of the group. Is Tonga sitting on Fragment Land? Tectonic movements Asia Aust Plate (over) and the Pacific Plate (below)Tonga on cutting edge may emerge(elevate from the ocean floor) to sequence of earthquakes and tsunami prone region? or not?
