Predictions 2009:

TVNZ7 will get sold, Rodneys Razor gang will slash and burn while the slash and burn is spun as moderate, John Key to stop weekly press conferences once the really hard questions start in the media, Jeannette Fitzsimons will step down from the co-leader position of the Greens, Afghanistan will become worse and worse and NZ will be asked to send more ground troops which John Key will and we will lose our first soldier in this conflict, fighting will breakout between the Turks and Kurds as tensions mount over Kurdish desires to seize northern oilfields, Chinese abuse of African countries they are raping for resources will become a bigger issue, Zimbabwe will collapse and become the first of many new failed states in 2009, many more breakthroughs in genetic medicine, Helen Clark will take a job with the UN, the CERN particle collider will prove string theory correct and we will have 11 new dimensions to add to our Universe, global warming will speed up more ice melt throughout the year, climate deniers will continue to muddy the waters with quack science and slow any change to confront pollution, as Oil continues to plummet because of the massive down turn in the economy Russia, Venezuela and China will find it hard to justify their oppressive regimes without the cash to prop up their economies, the economic meltdown will be harder than anything we've ever faced (Volvo went from 41 970 orders in 2007 to 115 in 2008), unemployment will rise to 10% as an influx of NZers from Australia gallop back to NZ as Australia's economy collapses from a lack of Chinese prosperity, Protests in NZ will get a lot more violent, we will see our first death from the 'safe' Taser.

Geez Bomber, you seem to be betting on sure things here, and fall REAL short in your predictions for 2009. Is it time to replace the batteries in the Crystal Ball mate?

Not very wise for Bomber to list predictions. He better hope no one can be bothered looking through the archives and listing all his previous comical predictions.

Here are my 2008 Predictions, you can clearly see them where I posted them January 20th 2008.

Predictions 2008
The Beijing Olympics will test China’s attempt to be a modern country and it will find them totally unprepared for the level of protest and media focus on the protests, while they are attempting to stymie protest coverage, they will also find the media’s focus on the environmental air pollution deeply damaging.

Obama will win the democratic nomination and go on to win against a deeply divided Republican party.

Melting ice at the Poles will be worse than predicted and we will start seeing run away heat waves as the Oceans absorb all the heat the ice bounced back into space.

String Theory – if the Europeans can start the bloody thing on time this year, cultures and notions of God will change.

NZ Election – Labour will put together the most amazing bribe package in the history of NZ politics.

"NZ Election – Labour will put together the most amazing bribe package in the history of NZ politics." Bomber-

Unfortunately the strength of the Coolaid from National won out at the end of the day with the "I want change"-lings That's too bad because there's not going to be anything left after the John and Jabba-the Brownlee show runs it's 36 month course with the added help of Rodney and Roger the SOE - impalers!
Nice try though Bomber, even though you didn't bet on any longshots!

How would the Large Hadron Collider prove String Theory? That is not its purpose, which is to find the Higgs Boson, if it exists. The LHC might prove supersymmetry or even find evidence for other dimensions but neither of these would prove String Theory.

OK Bomber, now show your full list of '08 predictions, including a left wing govt and $200 per drum of oil.

Professor Kaku was talking about it excitedly on BBC about proving string theory, I think it had something to do with seeing the influence of gravity from other dimensions.

OK Bomber, now show your full list of '08 predictions, including a left wing govt and $200 per drum of oil.
This is my full list, check out my January 20th 2008 posting, each year I wsrite up a list of things I think will happen, DURING 2008 however I said that there was a sea change of support for Labour when most polls were predicting National would govern alone when I pointed to polls that had been traditionally more correct than TVNZ, Herald or Fairfax. And in the end the 'left' simply lost out by the amount that NZ First lost by. It was a lot closer than the final result gave the right. As for $200 per drum, with fewer and fewer countries exporting oil as their own domestic economies increased consumption and an expanding middle class in China and India $200 per drum was a fair prediction, what occured however was the complete collapse of the global economy, the low oil price now shows how hard and sharp that down turn has become, this stat gives you an idea of how hard and sharp that downturn is (Volvo went from 41 970 orders in 2007 to 115 in 2008)

That's a preposterous claim - got anything to back it up? How can you expect to be taken seriously when you're pulling numbers like this out of nowhere?

Feeling nervous and want to hope beyond Christ that I'm wrong because what that Stat says about the economy is pretty fucking daunting isn't it? Yep, I pulled that fact from a column in the last Sunday Star Times, it was written by the guy who predicted the economic meltdown, the link is

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sundaystartimes/4808679a6445.html

should I hold my breath for an apology from you Anon for suggesting that I was making it up? Of course not, Anon posters never have manners.

Not at all - but if you're going to quote somehting you need to be more specific. You see I also saw that stat - but knew it was a bit more detailed than you were making out. In case you missed it, the whole thing is as follows:

"third quarter orders for Volvo trucks in Europe 41,970 orders in 2007 and only 115 in 2008."

In future, you could also add that Western European orders for rival Scania also dropped by 69%.

I agree with the fact it spells trouble for an already troubled company, and that it speaks volumes about the scale of the global economic situation, but if you're going to try and make a point - at least be accurate about it.

But please, accept my sincere apologies for ever daring to question your presentation of the facts.

That's funny Anon because if we recall your original comment...

That's a preposterous claim - got anything to back it up? How can you expect to be taken seriously when you're pulling numbers like this out of nowhere?

...yet you now claim you knew the stat all along, because your above comment doesn't make any mention of that at all Anon. Pretty convenient .

But please, accept my sincere apologies for ever daring to question your presentation of the facts.

Well at least you can apologize.

So rather than addressing and acknowledging the point I raise, you're going to attack me instead?

Classy.

And you're right - I can apologise and will happily do so when I'm wrong. However despite your accusations I am not in this case.

Can you admit you misrepresented the facts?

Hold on, you started by saying...

That's a preposterous claim - got anything to back it up? How can you expect to be taken seriously when you're pulling numbers like this out of nowhere?

...and now get sulky because I called you on that because according to you you knew the stat in the first place, how did I misrepresnt the fact...

the economic meltdown will be harder than anything we've ever faced (Volvo went from 41 970 orders in 2007 to 115 in 2008),

Because 'Volvo' sales didn't fall by that. Volvo truck sales did. In Western Europe. In one quarter.

Do you honestly not see how you've misrepresented those stats?

Oh, and I'm not sulking, I'm bemused by your failing to acknowledge when you've been called on something.

Is that all you've got? Jesus that is pathetic, from your shrill tone you sounded like you thought you had a point, but now see you've got nothing, I have better things to do than feed anonymous trolls, sulk quietly please.
