Nearly 300 Palestinians murdered – what does it take before NZ speaks out?

Israel bombs university in Gaza
Israeli air force jets have bombed the Islamic University in the Gaza Strip, a significant cultural symbol for Hamas.
Warplanes also struck Hamas government offices as air raids aimed at forcing Palestinian militants to halt rocket fire into southern Israel continued. Palestinian medics say nearly 300 people have been killed in the air raids that began on Saturday.
Israel has threatened to launch a ground assault and is now calling up 6,500 army reservists.

Blowing up a University huh? That’s how you stop rocket attacks against illegal Israeli occupations on land that has been stolen in what is practically the planets largest open air prison currently suffering an economic strangulation because the occupied had the audacity to elect a party focused on resisting that occupation rather than be bribed by it? See I would’ve thought the way to stop occupied people from firing glorified skyrockets with the accuracy of a drunk cow would be by pulling out of the land Israel has stolen. Apparently not. The way to stop these glorified skyrockets from being fired by occupied people isn’t to give them their land back and address their righteous grievances, oh no apparently it’s bombing the most denesly populated region on earth and blowing up a University. During the farce of the Lebannon war we had many passionate debates on this site from people convinced Israel was right and were acting because two soldiers were kidnapped, of course when the truth emerged that Israel had secretly planned that invasion 6 months earlier and were simply looking for an excuse to launch, those same passionate defenders of Israel all quietly slipped away and stopped posting. Let’s see how long before they start going quiet on this issue as Israel’s rampage becomes more and more unjustifiable. The silence however in the mainstream media on this outrageous murder of nearly 300 Palestinians is disgusting and their mouthing of the ‘self defense’ mantra from Israel makes them party to a lie. For the record, let’s remind ourselves who is actually doing the majority of the dying and suffering before we start supporting Israel...

123 Israeli children have been killed by Palestinians and 1,050 Palestinian children have been killed by Israelis since September 29, 2000.

1,062 Israelis and at least 4,876 Palestinians have been killed since September 29, 2000.

8,341 Israelis and 33,034 Palestinians have been injured since September 29, 2000.

Israel has been targeted by at least 65 UN resolutions and the Palestinians have been targeted by none.

1 Israeli is being held prisoner by Palestinians, while 10,756 Palestinians are currently imprisoned by Israel.

0 Israeli homes have been demolished by Palestinians and 18,147 Palestinian homes have been demolished by Israel since 1967.

Israel currently has 223 Jewish-only settlements and ‘outposts’ built on confiscated Palestinian land. Palestinians do not have any settlements on Israeli land.

What does Israel have to do before our Government criticizes them?

At least Helen has,

Rt Hon Helen Clark, Labour Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, today endorsed the call of the United Nations Security Council for a cessation of violence on all sides in Gaza.

Helen Clark said that the loss of life and the toll of injury and trauma in Gaza was horrific.

"While Hamas rocket attacks on Israel can never be condoned and have been provocative, nonetheless Israel has further jeopardised the security of its own people through its disproportionate use of force in retaliation.

Protest against slaughter in Gaza - Tuesday 4pm, US Consulate, Citibank, 23 Customs St East

Global Peace and Justice Auckland is organising a protest against Israeli’s latest attacks on the people of Gaza.

The protest will be outside the US Consulate in Customs Street Auckland from 4pm this Tuesday 30th December. The consulate is being targeted because the US has given unconditional backing to the Israeli government in these attacks.

Heads up re the protest tomorrow. Remember this is the first major protest under a National Government and the Police will test what the new limits of tolerance under a new Government will be so expect heavy handed tactics and a lot of arrests. The people turning up will fit nearly every possible profile the anti-terror intelligence squad have been funded to the eyeballs to watch out for but previously due to zero domestic radicalized Muslim influences, have turned to spying on the sex lives of green party members. If they think SAFE is a legitimate target, imagine how over the top they are going to be towards Muslims protesting against an Israeli massacre? Expect intelligence picking out people for arrest, it’s going to be nasty.

It's my understanding, and I could be wrong, that Palestine has no legal status under UN law and therefore cannot have resolutions passed on it...

The university is where they were training people to make the rockets.

They are firing these rockets from land no longer occupied by Israel, infact they started this immediately after Israel withdrew and have hardly let up. Oh, so mature. And I suppose you wonder why there is no progress on leaving the west bank?

If you really think a few 'skyrockets' is all that Hamas represents, and will remain at, you are more naive than I thought.

And so the jeolosuly, hatred and disproportinate treatment of Israel continues in the so called activist left, blind to the hypocracy of the their fake belief in equality for all.

It is customary to post a reference to the site or article that forms the basis for an allegation such as this.

If Bomber or anyone else things that the election of Obama is going to change Israel's behaviour, then they have rocks in their head.

Obama has been very clear about the need to support Israel and contain Iran. With the Iranians coming out with their Fatwa against Israel, it seems to me that US-Israeli relations will be pretty much business as usual.

In some respects, the ignorance of some of the left to realpolitik have put Obama in a bind. To what extent will these people be severely disappointed by what they perceive to be a lack of change. The expectation seems to be a total reversal of foreign policies of the US - hello, wake up, the US is not going to withdraw from the middle east, it is not going to stop backing Israel - these are the facts.

Anonymous wanted a reference which formed the basis of an allegation that the Islamic University was being used for making rockets which were then fired against Israel. How about Dow Jones wire service?
"GAZA CITY (AFP)--Israeli aircraft early Monday bombed Gaza City's Islamic University, a stronghold of the ruling Hamas movement, causing no injuries, according to witnesses.

Five rockets were fired towards the campus, focusing mainly on the university's laboratory building as fire and clouds of smoke billowed from the building located in the heart of the city, they said.

An Israeli army spokesman said the site was used for the development of rockets, explosives and electronic devices used by militants and was also a meeting point for Hamas militants and a weapons cache."

Nice to see their Egyptian "brothers" open fire when these poor people seek refuge and assistance across the border.

When will Hamas actually act like the legititmate government it supposedly is and truly act in the interests of the people who elected it? Surely reigning in 'militants' with 'toy rockets' would be a good start as Israel only needs a little excuse to respond. In saying that the response is disproportionate in the extreme and will not serve Israel in any positive way long term.
Another day in the middle east - another 'fashla'(screw up)!

Wasn't scotty one of those who shut the fuck up pretty quick and stopped apologising for Israel once it was revealed that Israel had planned the Lebanon war 6months earlier? Surprising he's even poking his head up, where's the condemnation over Israel's massacre in Gaza from your blessed National Party scotty?
