Feminists on Foot v. Boobs on Bikes
I didn't want to go there. But here we are. Talking about the rights of a bald-head smut-mongerer to parade fake titties down Auckland's main street in promotion of his business. But we all have to pretend it's about his freedom of speech. Pull the other one.
It's about $. But Free speech is the trump card he has and everyone knows it. I can't be bothered with the spectacle of ogling masses, motorbikes and silicon. No one would seriously try to stop this. NZ Herald reporting:
Auckland City Council's bid to get a court injunction to stop the Boobs on Bikes parade has failed.
Handing down her decision at the Auckland District Court today, Judge Nicola Mathers said she wasn't satisfied that the parade breached the legal threshold of offensiveness.
The Bill of Rights was centre stage when the council went to the court yesterday seeking a court injunction to stop tomorrow's event.
The controversial parade, in its sixth year in Auckland, features bare-breasted women parading down Queen St on open-top cars and motorbikes in the build-up to organiser Steve Crow's - 18 Erotica Lifestyles Expo.
I've been before Judge Mathers and found her highly competent and not one to mess around - so I'm not surprised at all by her judgement to allow the parade.
The Hand Mirror hens will be having a pointless and counter-productive moral peck at the thousands of leering would-be sex offenders. Being harassed by the thronging breast-worshippers will be a valuable bonding experience, but it all sounds a bit Christian to me:
"The City Council injunction against the Pornographic Parade failed.
The Auckland Women's Centre is going to get a permit and police protection
to march a block ahead of the parade with a banner -
"Pornography Fuels Sexual Violence Against Women and Children."
We need your support!
Meet at the front doors of the old town hall in Queen Street tomorrow at midday."
What they are objecting to must be the people who will be there to watch it. That's going to go down like a cup of cold sick.

What a waste of time and money this legal challenge was. A few naked breasts are hardly going to cause civilisation to collapse are they?

On which charge where you ordered to appear before the court timbo?
I too, have had the privilege to observe her honour in action, although not from the dock as you would have, and can second your motion that she is a highly competent judge.
On a lighter note Mathers J hereself, twenty five years ago, would have been a worthy addition as a particapant on boobs on bikes.
What they are objecting to must be the people who will be there to watch it.
You could try asking them instead of assuming you already know.
Some people like and enjoy sex and sexuality.....even if in their own somewhat overt and perhaps crude sort of way.
The boob ride down Queen St is very much in keeping with a certain strain of the Kiwi psyche....and a free-wheeling and fun one it can often be.
That same boob ride occurs in other towns around NZ through out the years - notably Palmerston North - where the motoring breast ride around the Square.....in the town with churches to spare.
The femin-nazis need to accept and understand that there are women who do not feel they are oppressed or objectified by riding half naked on a motorcycle down Queen ST. In their eyes, they are demonstrating the power of their sexual attraction and reveling in it. They embrace the male / female paradigm that shapes much of our humanity....and don't think it is dirty, horrible or in needing of hiding.

I'd have thought Graham Capill, who railed for years against pornography makes Crowe a bit player in the ugliness rankings.
I'd more readily trust Crowe over a seemingly pious Christian with children anyday.

This is a big hooha about nothing. They're breasts for god's sake! It's not like there's anything unnatural or 'dirty' about them. Women should be allowed to display their boobs if they want to - men do it all the time in summer.
