Global Warming in action right now

Floodwaters surge over Midwest levees
Water spilled over two levees on the Mississippi River on Wednesday, surging into west-central Illinois, covering fertile farmland and pushing residents from their homes, officials said. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Mississippi Valley said water flowed over the top of one levee, but local officials had a different account, reporting that the levee -- near Meyer, Illinois -- breached in two places about 6:20 a.m., pouring water into Hancock and Adams counties.
The levees are about 45 miles south of another levee that was breached Tuesday morning near the small village of Gulfport, Illinois, prompting about 400 people to leave their homes in Henderson County. The water flooded acres of land, shut down a train station and ruined crops.
A hell of a lot of crops, Iowa provides most of the corn to America and is an exporter, the double whammy is that this time it will also effect fuel prices as the corn has been diverted from food to bio-fuel creation. This flood is being described as a 1 in 500 year flood, Global Warming will create erratic weather patterns and make them much more frequent so that 1 in 500 flood starts happening a lot more often, and the erratic weather patterns will start to corrupt the agricultural calendar – which effects food production. This is exactly what is going on in Iowa, and it’s only going to get worse as more Ice rapidly melts and the heat is absorbed rather than radiated.

I guess we all would have been better off if Al Gore had become president.
Isn't history wonderfull!
THere is a statistician somewhere that has records of the American weather patters going back at least 2,000 years, enabling him to determine that this flood, in a country that has a direct history of less than 250 years, is a 1 in 500 year event.
I love statisticians
And so doe 153.87362% of my friends - honest!
You people are insane. The mississippi river has flooded its banks since it first became a river. It has nothing to do with god hating us for gay marriage, or "global warming" or any other superstitious nonsense. You people should have joined your Heavens Gate friends on the Hale-Bop spaceship.
If you don't believe me, then read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Mississippi_Flood_of_1927
And that flood is cira 1927, predating the global warming psychosis, AND gay marriage.
The thing about the levees of the Mississippi spilling over that most people miss is that the levees are preventing the natural change in course that all river's eventually take.
The a river's path will change over time and that is exactly what is happening to the Mississippi, only there are ineffective man made barriers in the way - whether humans want it too or not - it's course will change just as the Waikato river didn't always flow out to Port Waikato.
Anonymous is right. Having climbed up a Mississippi levy from "ground level" then only 1/3 distance down the other side to water level you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out one day something is going to give.
All that fertile farmland was delivered by river, so it continues...
