McDonald's praised for healthier vision
Politicians considering tougher anti-obesity laws found themselves congratulating fast-food giant McDonald's yesterday for its health drive. McDonald's bosses drew the compliments during an appearance before a select committee hearing submissions on the Public Health Bill, which provides new ways for the Cabinet or Director-General of Health to act against suspected causes of obesity. McDonald's was preceded yesterday by health sector groups who urged MPs to use the bill's new powers with courage and urgency. McDonald's managing director Mark Hawthorne then told MPs the hamburger chain broadly backed the bill but opposed potential new regulatory powers within it. "I'd never suggest you should support everything we do," he told MPs. "But love or hate McDonald's, we have the ability to create material change."
Oh for the love of God, they only show the ability to create material change after the blitzkrieg of information pointing out how manipulative they are by advertising to children (even though they have ‘reduced’ their direct advertising to children), promoting toys and building customer only playgrounds, of course supersize me by Morgan Spurlock probably also helped create the deeply defensive TV adverts where they scream they aren’t lying (because it’s on TV LOL). Ronald and his fast food pals realize that they’ve been very bad for a very long time and as Government sluggishly move to start regulating the industry they are very keen to try and portray themselves as ‘healthy’ so as to escape and worm out of any regulation. Too bad Ronald, feel the wrath of legislation – NO advertising to kids whatsoever, no toy promotions, and get rid of the playgrounds, I don’t mind you selling shit food to adults, that’s their choice, but there’s no way we should let you or any other fast food company manipulate kids into buying your crap.

in poor areas, the playground offered by macdonalds may well be the only playground around.
That's generally because in poor areas public playgrounds are targeted for vandalism to the point that councils remove them rather than spending huge amounts on maintenance which in some cases exceed the original cost of the playgrounds.
In the good old days kids could use the playgrounds at their local schools, unfortunately now nearly every school you see is surrounded by security fencing and locked up outside of school hours, especially in poorer areas as schools are also a big target for the sort of cocks who like to smash stuff.
McD's playgrounds are shit anyway, ask any mother who has spent half an hour trying to coax her suger-hyped child out of the plastic tubing "playground".
Good point. Have you ever been to a Burger King playground? The only one I've ever seen was really pathetic. Or have you seen the food they serve at the cafes at Chipmunks (where kids have to pay to play)?
I'm lucky enough to live in an area with two really great public playgrounds within walking distance which my step children love. However I do feel for the kids and parents that don't have that 'luxury' ... maybe it's actually a good thing to be able to take them to McDonalds occasionally...? What do you reckon?

Don't blame other people for how you choose to be Bomber.
As you can't seem to face the truth (full of advice for everyone else) but are to weak and cowardly to face your own failings.
You are fat because you choose to eat to much, so now the question is why don't you start eating and exercising sensibly, you claim (albeit falsly) to be more inteligent than everyone else yet when it comes to your lifestly you act like a moron.

I firmly believe censorship should begin and end at home. If children are being taught poor eating habits then thats on their parents, not the fast food industry. Would you stifle your kids education and expect them to turn out just fine?
