Cops shoot another NZer dead
Police shot and killed a man in Christchurch last night after being called to a domestic incident. The incident began in a house near inner-city Avonside Drive, where a 37-year-old man was reported to be smashing a flat with a hammer. When police arrived, he was in nearby Stanmore Rd attacking a vehicle with the hammer. Police said he was shot at 8.36pm, and died at the scene at about 9pm. A resident told One News he heard what sounded like someone kicking and banging a car, then what he described as four gun shots. Ummmm, if all this guy had was a hammer, why did the cops shoot him dead? Why didn’t they call the dogs and set them on him if he wasn’t going to put his hammer down? Do we really want an ill trained Police force (who if not participating in questionable sadomasochistic gang rapes) shoot citizens at the drop of a hat? It might be a bit quick to jump to conclusions, but seeing as the Police Complaints Authority (where cops investigate cops in a none transparent secret manner) will simply put out another whitewash report, they may well be the only conclusions one can get.

The guy sounded out of control and the police should not have to put them self in danger to take out a nutter.
However isn't this why they got the taser? So they didn't have to shoot people?
Before making any further judgement though we should wait for the full facts to come out.
This is precisely why they deployed the taser's, so the police would have the ability to incapacitate offenders without the use of leather force. let's see what all those anti-taser whinger's say now.

Funny how Bomber also doesn't want cops to have any alternative to firearms such as tasers which would have resolved this incident without harm. Next time someone trys to attack them with a hammer they should just runaway and hope like hell they can run faster than the guy chasing them.

Under the heading "Why Cops Shoot Guys With Knives", the email contains stomach-churning photographs of a police officer with massive slashes to his back, chest and stomach.
The text of the email exhorts officers to shoot anyone with a weapon. "If you've got a knife, then you should die ... period."
The email has been forwarded to more than 30 officers and then to addresses that appear to be members of the public.
One man, disgusted by the content, forwarded the email to The Press, saying: "I got this terrible email today, which seems to be sourced from the police.
"It's disgusting that photographs of this nature are widely circulated and used in such an exploitative manner."
The Christchurch policeman from whom the email appears to originate wrote: "Have a look at these photos to remind ourselves why we have SRBAs (stab-resistant body armour) and should be wearing them."
The email continues: "To all the idiots out there who always say, 'Why did the cops have to shoot him? He only had a (insert your choice of weapons here, ie knife, bat, club, whatever). He didn't have to be shot'. To that, I respond, 'Tough crap ... shoot 'em'."
At least one of the officers forwarding the email was a senior sergeant.
Canterbury District Commander Superintendent Sandra Manderson said the officer who created the email had taken the images and the words from an American website.
The email was meant as a caution to officers to wear their body armour, she said.
"But he should have removed the words. They are totally inappropriate. He should have cut them out," she said.
Manderson said she was "not happy" that the email had been sent to members of the public, but it had not been sent outside the police force by a senior member.
National Party police spokesman Chester Borrows said the email was a product of "stupidity".
The images were "pretty gruesome" but "the guy who seems to have started it probably thought he was doing some good", he said.
"He was being a bit naive leaving all the red-neck, bigoted talk in there. The police don't have the public's confidence and it's slips like this that (make it worse)," Borrows said".

The taser trial has been withdrawn, they don't have them anymore. A Police dog might not have been working or they didn't have time to wait for one. It was a domestic situation they can't really sit back and wait 30 minutes for a dog to get there not knowing whats happening to the women inside. The media and Bomber would love it , Police sit back and wait while women dies.
I didnt relise the Taser trial had been withdrawn. Whilst I hated the things I thought they were needed in todays day in age where we have muppets running around with knives.

A man was shot dead by police during a domestic incident in Christchurch tonight.
Police were called to the incident at a house off Avonside Drive at 8.26pm.
A 37-year-old man was reported to be smashing a flat with a hammer. He then left the house and walked to nearby Stanmore Road.
Police were called and located the man attacking a vehicle on Stanmore Road with what appeared to be a hammer.
The shooting occurred at about 8.36pm on Stanmore Road.
A police officer was involved in the shooting, said police district commander Sandra Manderson.
The man died soon after 9pm.
His body was still at the scene late tonight.
The name of the dead man has not yet been released.
Police have cordoned off Stanmore Road from Avonside Drive to Armagh Street. Inside the cordon is another cordon holding a police dog van, ambulance, police cars and a body under a sheet.
A resident said he heard what sounded like a car backfiring at about 8.30pm followed by a rapid series of shots.
Ms Manderson said a homicide inquiry had begun into the incident.
"The homicide inquiry will be run parallel to the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) inquiry using separate teams of staff."
The PCA had been advised and would arrive in Christchurch tomorrow morning.
Ms Manderson said she had asked for the police kaumatua Rev Maurice Gray to ensure the cultural process of tapu lifting would be carried out correctly when the scene examination was complete.

A witness ( civilian ) just said on radio news that the guy had his hands by his side when shot - he also said there was no attempt at CPR etc etc - sounds eerily similar to the Waitara shooting to me..

There is a simple lesson to by learned here: if you don't want to be shot by police then don't charge at them with a hammer. Are you confused by this?
