Campaigners call for Rickards' head
A campaign has started to have suspended assistant police commissioner Clint Rickards sacked, but the Government has given assurances the issue will soon be resolved. Postcards were distributed in downtown Wellington yesterday, addressed to Police Minister Annette King, calling for New Zealand Police to fire Mr Rickards. The postcards, with free postage, say that while being paid more than $150,000 a year, Mr Rickards has:
* taken sexual advantage of vulnerable young women
* supported convicted rapists
* been involved in immoral, manipulative and unacceptable conduct.
The postcards say his actions have been "totally unacceptable to all New Zealanders". This case leaves a sour taste in everyones mouth, would the jury have seen things differently if they were aware of all the facts, how many rape allegations must you face before you lose confidence in a high ranking police officer? Of course there will be those who glibly point out he was let off and that should be that, however most NZers would feel that sadomasochistic ritualistic gang rape where Police batons are forced into women not once but three times with two of the cops being found guilty of gang rape leaves a lot of questions.

Having group sex is not a crime last time I looked in the Crimes Act but possession of drugs is. So do you really think that you hold the moral high ground here? Explain this logic of how you a self confessed drug abuser can pass judgment on someone who has served society in a role which could have gotten him killed if he slipped up and for what, a measly police salary.
Rickards may not be a picture of moral perfection but he definitely got the job done. The guy spent years working undercover to nail drug dealers and and infiltrate gangs and criminal circles. Which are probably the circles you move in NZN.

I don't disagree with you on Dewar's conviction and I think it is a serious indictment on policing at the time and that it took so long to bring it to court.
But the evidence of what the other officer's did was correctly suppressed as it could have prejudiced the trial. The system is designed to to give the accused a fair trial based on facts and evidence (s 25 of the bill of rights Act, check it out sometime). It's not a consideration that should be selectively applied to based on whether the accused or more likable or not.
Would you rather that the accused's criminal history or that of their associates was disclosed during the trial and a decision reached on those facts instead of the actual offense - guilt by association. What you are asking for will result in a gross miscarriage of justice.

Our system of law allows evidence that shows a pathology, these police officers got off on gang rape with sado masichistic overtures using objects forced into girls, there was a very clear pattern go their offending - I'm not suggesting we bias evidence, of course not - but there are provisions within our legal system that allow pathology like this to be heard - the Judge decided to not let the Jury hear that evidence - the fact that two cops were already serving for a rape with the exact same MO IS something a jury should hear - but when you are a cop I suppose you get good mates like Dewar to help cover things up hu?

I take your point Bomeber. I simply prefer that the justice system be setup to provide the maximum protection against the convictions of innocents. Since the 'guilt by association' factor would have been so prejudicial I think it would have been the thin edge of the wedge and would have serious repercussions and consequences in future trials. What if a young gang prospect was forced to admit to a murder as part of his patching (think of the Wanganui toddler shooting case) and the judge decided that it was admisable that since several of his codefendents were guilty of criminal acts then this should be taken into account. Would that be a fair outcome?

I have a friend who worked for the Samaritans. They are very good at helping people work through whatever psychological issues that they may have in a non-judgemental way irrepctive of what you have done in the past. From your own admission you have had a traumatic upbringing which has left deep emotional scars. And no matter how much money you make it can't heal those scars. It's no substitute for being accepted and valued by your loved ones. Anger is not the answer here, it will only lead to your own destruction.

A letter is not an authority, only the decisions of the Privy Council are seen to have any judicial authority so your reference lacks any legal force whatsoever.

you know I have watch this a lot, I wonder were does Hated get his info from... I have looked the at the reference to the letter and it is true, I can get a copy from the Alexander Turnbull Library.. Though I find it, surprising that all reference Hated has made is correct, which is unusual for a so called gang member would know about it.. Maybe theres more to him than you give him credit for?

I'll probably check out his info on the letters in due course since I have access to a law library but exams are coming up so I really can't be fucked. I suspect he hasn't seen the letters but read about them from a secondary source. But what irks me is his progressive climbdown from a statement of the privy council to private correspondence when faced with the prospect of someone calling his game.
