Shhhh – it’s only rape
The final chapter in the police sex scandal is being aired before a High Court jury in Hamilton. John Dewar - the former head of the Rotorua CIB - is accused of attempting to cover up claims by Louise Nicholas that she was raped and sexually assaulted by several police officers, not once, but four times. Dewar was once the boss of Rotorua's crime squad, responsible for putting accused people before the courts. Dame Margaret Bazley in her report on Police Culture, found numerous examples of cops covering up for other cops in a culture of silence when it comes investigating each other, it is only just one more example as to why we need an independent police complaints authority in this country because cops investigating cops = shhhh.

Do we realy need another beurocratic authority to investigate police. Like farkinell what is the policemans job, hullo isnt it to investigate, lets get real here bomber. you are the one thats always going on about being overly governed or ruled. lets just trust the Police to do a good job and leave it up to the courts.

I agree that an independant oversight facility would be beneficial, but why do you have to impugn Chief Wiggum?
The UK are so lucky they have a real media and investigive journalism. For decades it is the media who have got to the truth and helped people.
Going back years to Distillers and Thalidomide, it was the Sunday Times who won that for the victims. The BBC have recently used hidden cameras to get to some truth in the police and hospitals.
In NZ it is hidden cameras that got Morgan Fahey. I was wondering what had happened to this film with Dewar as I had seen it shown on TV years ago. I was curious why it did not surface in the original trials.
My experience tells me that TVNZ is in the control of government and if they have film the government don't like it is shelved. I was once promised by TVNZ that something (concerning corruption in a government department) would be shown that evening yet an hour latter I was told it was not being aired, and it was pulled - permanently.
Which network did this secret filming and that which got Fahey.
Interesting how in those two events it was women who had the guts to follow through with hidden cameras and mics. I still remember the media abuse the woman in the Fahey case was subjected to, Brian Edwards called her a ‘gutless wonder’ and lamented how that wonderful Dr. Fahey was being hurt by those dreadful women, on his Saturday morning RNZ show. I wonder if he ever apologised to her and Faheys other victims. How many more Faheys and Rickards are out there, I would say hundreds if not thousands.
Government bureaucracies are a waste of time, you have loads already. What does the Privacy Commission, Ombudsman’s office and the Humans Rights outfit do for ordinary victims – NOTHING – they are an insult. What do the courts do for ordinary people – NOTHING – they make sure the status quo is protected, the government will always win any case before them.
All another authority or commission will do is provide easy well paid jobs for the friends and relatives of politicians, they are also used as a reward for government pets who can be relied upon to come up with whatever outcome their paymasters want and need. The other group who get appointment to these useless, token pamphlet producers are poachers who can be bought off by making them into gamekeepers.
HIDDEN CAMERAS will bring truth, if the media has the guts to do it and if they can find people who will risk imprisonment to, the journalist in the UK who infiltrated the police with a hidden camera is facing prosecution.
PS: Yes I know the UK has crap media as well.

hell, i must say anyone that defends these filthy pigs must be themselves a rapist, we all know they did it an even if she was a slut it does not mean that she wasnt raped, what just cause she got around she isnt allowed to say no. i can see why some of you remain annonmyous
