Another oil linked group tells us global warming isn't happening

The Climate Science Coalition (don’t you just love the authoritative sounding name) have attacked NIWA for stating the obvious that the floods last week in Northland are what we are going to start seeing more and more of because of global warming.

So who are the Climate Science Coalition? Well two of the members of the Coalition are Vincent Gray and Bob Carter, who are they?

In 2003, Exxon-Mobil funded the Tech Central Science Foundation to the tune of NZ$151,430 and Vincent Gray and Bob Carter were both contributing writers to that foundation.

Ohhhh, right, so group that has links to organizations funded by Exxon-Mobile say that Global Warming isn’t real – isn’t in interesting that everytime a group comes out and attempts to suggest global warming is all just a green hoax, they all seem to be funded by an oil company – does that amaze and astound the rest of you?

Why don’t the Herald point these links out?

Global warming clash builds up its own heat
The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research is standing by its prediction that global warming will cause more floods of the type that devastated Northland. Niwa climate scientist Dr Jim Salinger rejects Climate Science Coalition criticism describing Niwa's observations as simplistic and unscientific, especially as summer had brought below-average temperatures. Coalition spokesman Augie Auer claimed Dr Salinger's argument on global warming was not credible.

Thats a little hypocritical, considering Al Gores substantial ties to Global Warming. Bit of a double standard, you blog against people on the other side for encouraging policies that help their profitability, yet when Al does it thats acceptable.

Some of my friends on Kiwiblog have accused me of being a conspiracy theorist because I have questioned the concerned scientist coaltion because they have members from an Exxon-Mobile funded group......yeah that's a conspiracy David - oil company that makes record billion dollar profits support groups who spread global warming disinformation - pretty far out there, here's a blog I posted earlier...

Thankfully the punch drunk stupor of the right has worn off and EVEN NATIONAL admit that the Enviornment doesn’t seem to be open to constant rape and pillage by their party contributing (wonder why they want to keep those funders so secret?) corporate mates.

But it wasn’t always thus, those corporate buddies of the right have done a hell of a lot to spread disinformation about Global warming as some sort of left wing myth up there with the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Here is a list of all the front groups Exxon-Mobil spend billions on to help spread that disinformation.

I personally love the story about the Public Interest Watch – this was a front group funded by Exxon-Mobile which attacked Greenpeace by suggesting that Greenpeace were laundering money – amazingly Greenpeace was audited because of this one claim by an Exxon-Mobil front group

Washington
From PIW Website: "Public Interest Watch (PIW) was established in 2002 in response to the growing misuse of charitable funds by nonprofit organizations and the lack of effort by government agencies to deal with the problem. PIW works to fight charitable trust abuse by exposing individual cases of abuse and advocating for stronger governmental oversight, including requirements for greater financial disclosure by charitable organizations. PIW is a 501(c)4 tax-exempt organization, which means contributions to PIW are not tax-deductible. Initial funding for PIW has been provided by business organizations. "

Organization revealed by Wall Street Journal in March 2006 to have been funded almost entirely by Exxon Mobil in 2003 with $120,000 donation out of $124,000 total revenue. Published report in 2003 accusing Greenpeace of money laundering and other tax infractions.

I listend to that radio NZ discussion on these guys the other day, and now have myself some serious doubts about the level of man made climate change.

0.6 degree increase in a century? hmm

There is no debating the facts, that global temperatures have risen 0.7C in the last 100 years.
However there is debate over the cause of this increase, and if we just decide to shut down legitimate scientific debate, just because there is some output that doesn't suit the established thinking, then we are in a very bad way. As a person involved in atmospheric sciences, I'm aware that there is vigorous debate within the CO2 alarmist group as to what degree CO2 emissions will force temperatures to rise.
The science is not settled.
However, if this current hysteria results in modifications in human behaviour that extend the life of the planet and human society upon it then the outcome will be good.
Our biggest problems are population and mindless consumption.
