Rape in Prison

NZers love putting people in Prison, there’s a weird Scottish Presbyterian streak of cruelty that we just love to itch in our country. We have conservative politicians like Simon Power who tell NZ that Prison is an adult Disneyland, that it’s too soft that prisoners need to suffer a little more and there is a huge chunk of the population who really want to see prisoners chain ganged together, breaking rock and whistling ‘ole man river’. In the last 8 years many NZers have done very well thank you and the idea that a filthy member of the Underclass may steal their plasma TV sends them howling for the noose.

There is no doubt that we have many broken screwed up people who do horrific things but rehabilitation takes more effort than leaving most to rot in violent environments.

Isn’t that a concept folks, personal growth through degradation and suffering. The thing that I always love is how when one of these time bombs pops out, after years of being dehumanized , and they explode we all have this shock horror on our faces as if we can’t understand what has happened.

Here’s a great case, we should all be very proud of our prison conditions.

Liam case echo as cell shared with gang member
Police are investigating the alleged rape of a minimum security prison inmate by a notorious double-rapist gang member after the two men were put in the same cell.
The case chillingly echoes the prison van murder of teen Liam Ashley. The victim of the Waikeria Prison alleged rape is a slightly built European man in jail on dishonesty offences, including credit card fraud. His attacker is said to be Black Power gangster William Wii Katipa, 41, who has been convicted of two rapes, aggravated robbery, threatening to kill and assault. He has spent much of his adult life in prison and committed a number of the offences while on parole or bail.
A prison source said: "They never should have been put in the same cell. [The alleged victim] was a minimum security prisoner but was put in a cell with a dangerous prisoner who had a high-medium security rating the second-highest security rating in the system. "[The alleged victim] had asked to be transferred from Waikeria to [lower security] Rangipo Prison but was told by prison staff that he was facing more charges and he had to stay at Waikeria." He learned later - after the alleged rape - that there were no more charges, said the source. The minimum security inmate -understood to have been suicidal since the alleged attack - had said he was raped by Katipa in the cell on two separate occasions last October, according to the source. The fraudster said the gang member - jailed for raping a teenager and now serving an indefinite sentence for raping a woman in front of her young daughter - blocked the peep-hole into the cell before sexually assaulting his cell-mate. He said while he was being raped, a prison guard doing rounds challenged the Black Power member about the blocked peep-hole but continued his patrol when told the gang member was going to the toilet.

and why are you writing about this?? who gives a sh*t?????? to be in a cell with a double rapist means he is a shit bag, and subsequently deserves everything he gets. i mean. BOO FUCKING HOO!. and bomber, the analogy of "breaking rocks in a chain gang, singing ole man river" has been over used by you by about a million times

Oh God, I've got a right one here folks - um Anon, the point is that the guy was minimum security and he was put in a cell with a maximum security prisoner - it was a cock up (pun aside), and the maximum security prisoner raped the minimum security prisoner - and your come back is 'it's his fault for being in prison so its okay for him to get raped' - wow, did you bust that one out around the water cooler when Liam Ashly was strangled to death in the back of a prison van because the staff had incorrectly put Liam in with a violent man?

Wow dude, you're a little ray of sunshine ain't ya now - I use that chain gang line over and over, just for the benefit of people like you.

Amazing, yet again the incompetance of these people is truly astounding. S

omeone thought it would be a good idea to put them together in the same cell. Hardened crims and youths kept apart....crims located on the basis of security risk...its really not that hard.
