PRISON BLOG 28

TIME IS MONEY
On the 18th of October it will have been three months that I have been imprisoned. I have seen an article that quoted the cost of keeping one prisoner incarcerated for a year is $56 000. That means the total restitution to the Crown for which I am responsible (concerning the reasons I am in prison) have now been exceeded by the amount of money it has cost the Crown in terms of my imprisonment. It’s all so silly, isn’t it?
I’ll also be in a Crown institution when the Confiscation Day anniversary comes around (November 18). I’ll have to mark it in an appropriate way.

More whining- 'It's costing so much to incarcerate me, I should not have been locked up, what's the point'- punishment is the point. That and deterrence. Commit multiple fraud, go to jail.
If the misspending of government money really bother tiny tim he can always work to repay the taxpayer when he gets out.
Don’t know the story on his frauds – tiny is not that interesting to me – but has he paid the people back he stole from, has he paid back (or does he have future plans to pay back) the people whose property he vandalised.
There is a case at the High Court in Auckland that started yesterday. A couple have been charged with the importation and exportation of Class A drugs.
The husband is non resident as he is from Nigeria and has been in detention at Mt Eden remand centre since the 30th August 2004.
Before he was arrested he was employed as a carpenter and was on 50k a year and his wife 45k.
He is a qualified Architect with Masters and no previous criminal convictions.
What makes this story so interesting in this case is that the police put together their theory of events to formulate charges without either of the persons ever been caught with the Class A drug on either person.
Neither of the defendents have had proper representation and I do believe their rights under the United Nations Human Rights has been breached due to the evidence that they are convicted on.
If you know of any other cases that have had people convicted purely on picking up a package but not arrested at the time, please let me know.
MIke Laws is a man that would like everyone locked up if he could.
Practice what you preach about fraud Mr Laws, were you not a List MP for New Zealand First and at the same time trying to run for local government.
That's right Helen Clark has never been charged for fraud for signing her name to a painting that was not painted by her...
ethics is thos on the lower end of the economic scale get locked up while those from the Capitalist point of view get a slap on the wrist.
Corruption starts with those that are in Governmemt and Local Government and well to those who are on fraud charges Helen and Michael should be there too.
Mike Laws doesn't seem to get it.
There's no point locking someone up if they don't represent a clear and present threat to people.
Fraud is far better punished by reparation instead of incarceration. Why waste more money on someone who has already stolen?
No deterrence there Blair...unless you have to pay back much more than you actually stole.
Well duh...
...
BUT Tim's Fraud was only brought up because of the sedition charges - and the fraud was 10 years ago - Tim was given such a heavy sentence because of the sedition charge - you fail to ever see that Mike which leads me to believe that you don't care how harsh a sentence is, as long as someone gets punished. A very, very narrow view of the world there Mike
