Most corrupt politician 2006?

We expect politicians to be dodgy, like used car salesmen but Israel’s President, Mashe Katsav must take the cake for this year. Sure they will steal money, or misappropriate funding, but rape and sexual offences?
Israel's President retreats in face of sex offence claims
JERUSALEM - Israel's President Moshe Katsav cancelled his scheduled appearance at the opening of the Knesset yesterday in the wake of a police report recommending his indictment for rape and other sexual offences, along with a string of other charges.
Katsav spared himself the embarrassment of planned walk-outs and protests by members of parliament by staying away from the ceremony.
His decision followed an even heavier than expected list of alleged offences, including two cases in which female former employees in his office say they were raped by Katsav, once during his presidency and once when he was Tourism Minister in the late 90s.
The police have also recommended his prosecution on hitherto unexpected charges of using public funds to purchase gifts for members of his wife's family and personal friends.
The charges are also understood to include ones of illegally bugging the telephone conversation.

If he is guilty then throw the book at him. Having said that, surely this a positive indictment on the Israeli justice system. Where else in the middle east would you likely see any figure close to power structures charged with any form of crime?

Big deal. Hardly an postive indictment. More of a 'softner'.
The israeli government has spent decades raping it's locals and neighbours. Now they want to try their President, who role is purely cermonial, for rape. That's precious.
Again.
The Israeli Prime Minister Rapist "The Criminal Who Peddles Peace" has called on his Lebanese counterpart to establish peace with Israel.
Having spent 34 days decimating his counterparts country, he now wants peace talks.
That's wonderful. Perhaps he'd also like Siniora to bend over and accept a rogering with a cluster bomb.
That's how the evil israelis work. Rape you savagely and then extend a hand of freindship.
Should we expect more from their President?
Don't be ridiculous Mark, he is a brave fighter against US imperialism and hegemony, so you can't criticise him...I mean hey whats 2.5 million starving to death compared to Israel trying to protect itself from a psychopaths who think that blowing up women and children is the way to heaven?
...
Yawn - did I say politician or dictator? Oh look Mark, Ronery and bleeding heart, I said politician. Great post Karlos
It's okay to be anti-Semitic on this site, don't you know? But Kim Jong Ill and Nasrallah are heroes

Thanks for your feedback Mark.
Yes, I have become incredibly intolerant of Israeli Policy towards Palestinians and other people in the region. One could say I have become radicalised in my opinion. That comes through in my posts. Good. I make no apology for that.
The ‘evil Israelis’ was used on purpose as a dig at their scorched earth policy. I know the Palestinians aren’t all angels, but you have to see it in context.
Up till the recent ‘war’, I believed Israel had a right to exist as it does. Not any more.
There has to be a change there. Their lust for land in insatiable and has to be stopped (peacefully please). Israelis desiring peace and living in Israel have a right to stay there. I am not attacking them, but their government’s actions to destabilise the region.
You call my post anti-semitic. Do you even know what that means? Many arabs from Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq are semitic. An attack on Israel does not constitute an attack on ethnicity. It is an attack on political racism.
I am anti-zionist pure and proud, because Zionism is inherently racist, under the guise of ethnic preservation.
I am interested to know how you thought my post was bigotry. Please let me know.
Mark,
Like I said above. The ‘evil israelis’ language was intended as a dig at their scorched earth policy. The ‘attack first and seek peace after’ policy is standard Israeli operating practice.
If that makes people feel hatred for them, then that’s because of their own actions. I’m telling it like it is, albeit with emotive language. It is an emotive issue.
For what it’s worth, I believe in One State solution that :
1. allows for the right of return for the Palestinian refugees
2. allows for the existing Israelis to remain
3. provide equally rights to all inhabitants
The reason Israel rejects this is because it would change the demographic of the country. This is inherently racist. That, and the reason that they are violent and have and insatiable lust for others’ land, is the real reason that the surrounding Arab countries hate Israel. Nothing to do with Judaism.
Like I said before, the issue is with Zionism, not Judaism.

Mark, Mark, Mark...
“Hamas will not accept it.” – Lies. Like I said, allow the return of the refugees and the extremists will weaken.
“Palestinians and neighbouring Arab countries will not accept it.” – Damn lies.
Palestinians and Arab countries will accept a solution that resolves the Palestinian dispossession issue. They have already conceded to the 1967 borders.
It is Israel alone that rejects it.
“It simply doesn't matter what Israel does as there will never be peace.”
If you don’t believe peace is possible, why are we having this discussion? Restore human rights to the dispossessed and peace with ensue.
I think your becoming desperate in your argument that the land grab issue is race based. Any nation (Muslim or other) subject to land grabs (by Mulsims or others) would react with hostility. It’s human nature to protect what is ‘yours’, not matter who tries to steal it. If the pope or an immigrant were to steal your car, would you be less angry at the pope?
Reaper is right. There is much Israel can do to work towards peace. Stopping “it's brutal occupation of the Palestinian lands” is a good start. Allowing the Palestinian economy to grow after ending its occupation is also a necessary step. Allowing some refugees to return to Israel will build trust and bring hope to the desperate.
Peace will follow.
but Mark, thanks for posting.
