Sunday Brunch

UN Ceasefire – So Fucking What?
SEEING as Israel has ignored about 70 UN resolutions starting with resolution 242, I’m not about to start the back slapping yet. The only power who can tell Israel what to do is Amerika, it always comes back to them and their idiotic Administration! Honestly, if I had a gun and two bullets and was in a room with Saddam, Osama and Bush, I’d shoot Bush twice.

Girls beat boys at Uni – so what?
AFTER centuries of not allowing women an education, there seems to be some deep seated fear everytime a statistic comes out showing woman are doing well academically. Today there is some data showing Women are now doing well at University as well, but what I love is the undertone that runs through these types of stories that go something like this – NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT NEWS ALERT – the Dykes are winning and men are becoming nancy boys! That Women have been able to retake the edge educationally in only 100 years is something to be celebrated after so many years when they were deprived of that right.

All Black Haka
APPARENTLY there is ‘anger’ at children mimicking the throat slashing move from the All Black Haka – excuse me? With all that is happening in the world right now, you have ‘anger’ at a move from a dance? This is a prime example of SLOW NEWS DAY – and let me be honest here ANYONE DUMB ENOUGH TO GET WORKED UP OVER THIS should lose their right to vote. If you are that petty, if something as inane as this really works you up, chances are you vote National, and you’re the reason why dickheads like Don Brash and Simon Power get traction in this country – good day to you Sir, I SAID GOOD DAY!

Greener Field
Matt McCarten writes a very good column in the Sunday Herald where he reminds us that before the whitewash report, Taito Phillip Field was a man of integrity. It gives another dimension to the man and reminds us to keep that in perspective before we rip the man to pieces.

The Sunday Star Times still have the best AND worst columnists
TZE Ming Mok makes very solid hits on Don Brash and his nonsense statement earlier in the week that immigrants who only share our ‘bedrock values’ should be allowed to stay here. She asks who marched against gays, Destiny Church, who slags off women as ‘feminist witches’, pakeha pundits and who put out pamphlets asking parents to beat Satan out of their children? Fundy Christians – are those the ‘bedrock values’ Don was talking about? Well done Tze Ming. Finlay MacDonald thoughtfully questions our Medias’ preoccupation with violence after last weeks brilliant opinion piece attacking Israels rational in Lebanon

THESE two voices of reason however were overshadowed by some of the most hate mongering literature to surface since 1930s Germany. It must be close to radio ratings time again, because Michael Laws-unto-himself has written a despicable column seriously urging the sterilization of ‘undesirables’. He whines like a bitch about ‘white males’ and how hard done by they are and suggests ‘undesirables’ should be sterilized to fix the real ills of society. Michael has taken his intellectual snobbishness to that dangerous new level where evil becomes rationalized for the ‘betterment’ of society. His intellectual superiority complex was amusing when it was confined to heavy mascara use, but this new line of rhetoric honestly makes the guy sound like a Nazi. I really hope that this is just over the top redneck thought babble aimed at saving Radio Live from another abysmal ratings book – but the glee he seems to take in justifying the sterilization of ‘undesirables’ makes for truly offensive reading.

OH and I try not to read Rosemary McLeod – she gives me the creeps and seems to have a real problem with anyone enjoying sex. I imagine she’s the kinda person who would have children locked in her attic.

Hey Bomber

Just to let you know I 'linked' to your site from the Wired Temples: Malta on the Web, Robert Micallef blog. Glad I did!

Love your posts - just the right combo of wit, intellect, and heavy on the sarcasm.

You're brave to even suggest that my friend, but just quietly, me too.

Spot on about Rosemary Mcleod. She is so full of hate I doubt she needs to eat or drink. Hate mainly aimed at men. Is she married? I don't know, I think she was once, but blamed the poor guy for everything that was wrong with her, killed him, and since then has been waiting for a man who is "good enough" for a princess like her. Shudder.

Slow day. No-one wants a scrap except this guy at NotPC:

"Mr Brewerstroupe (or Mrs), the way you put forward your argument is beyond comprehension. I am sure that as a writer such as yourself, you must spot the cause of an event then start your reasoning from there. I have stated in my reply to your earlier post in another thread that if Israel's enemy just completely drop their terrorism against Israel, then Israel would stop their campaign against them. How hard for you to grasp that ? The incursion by Israeli forces into Beit Hanun, had started by a cause (terrrorists suicide bombing and firing of rockets into Israel), therefore Israel reacted. Here is a contradiction of logics. Person 'A' fires his shotgun at a wall. An observer person 'B' in the same room watches the bullet as it leaves the barrel on its way to the wall. 'B' claims that he can sense the effect prior to the action of the cause. That is 'B' sees the wall blasting off, just before the bullet hits that spot which he has just seen blasted off. Now the effect (huge hole on the wall) precedes the cause (bullet hitting the wall). This is exactly how you and others (anti-Israelis) reason. Every time that Israel is reacting in self-defence, the like of yours & Robert Fisk jumps up and say that it is Israel's fault. There is no attempt at all to track the cause, which is always, some suicide bombing that triggers Israel's action or rockets fired to Israel that prompted the Israeli army to cross into Beit Hanun region. Did you think that they (IDF) went into Beit Hanun to buy some icecream ? I expect you as a writer to have more sensible in your interpretations of things. If you insist that the effects is the problem and not the causes, then I can't understand why you write as a profession, because I believe that all writers have good visions."

Eh?? He's the best I've seen at stopping the debate. I ain't going back there!

I just did a google search for images of the Katyusha rocket. They're big. They are usually mounted on the back of a truck. The blowback is tremendous. They could not be fired from inside a building. If they were a hundred metres from your house you wouldn't get insurance.
What does this do to the Israeli spin on Qana and the whole campaign?

hmm big rockets on both sides? lets not forget both of these groups are shooting at civillians. Lets get livid about any military commander that shoots explosives at cities a few hundred k's away.

............................Brilliant posts here brothers and sisters!

Sharyn - welcome, it's a free for all space glad you like it!
Anon 1 - Bro, tell me it isn't that scary yet that we will get arrested for telling jokes! Grin - fuck 'em.
Anon 2 - I have never laughed so hard before, that description is gold!
Brewer - Wow, look how NotPC REFUSES to see that the Sheeba Farms dispute or the mass Lebanese and Palestinian arrest policies have ANYTHING to do with the issue. That the daily ritualistic humiliation of the Palestinian people and the unjustifiable military group punishment violence detonated on the Lebanese people HAS NOTHING to do with the morality of this war - Tumeke!
Mediahax - Grin - I was apparently too left wing for Radio Live!

My point about the Katyushas is that they cannot be fired close to buildings. You can't hide 'em down your y-fronts. Why then has Israeli destroyed apartment buildings, whole neighbourhoods?

....................................they honestly believe in there that only right wing talkback radio will work. They throw in the odd bod for the illusion of 'balance' like the very brilliant Willy Jackson and Finlay Mac, but the powers that be deem it so.

re Sheeba Farms: Hezbollah's spokesperson Hassan Ezzedin had this to say about the area: "If they go from Sheba'a, we will not stop fighting them. Our goal is to liberate the 1948 borders of Palestine...[Jews] can go back to Germany or wherever they came from.” New Yorker, (October 14, 2002).
When are you going to quit your deluded view that withdrawing from Sheeba means peace Bomber?

Since the first of our forbears picked up a rock, threats and bombast have been standard rhetoric. In case you haven't seen my previous posts, here is an example of Israeli diplomacy:
"Eretz Israel [the land of Israel] will be restored to the people of Israel, All of it. And forever."
Menachem Begin in 1948.

He was referring to all of what now comprises the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon. I have pages of this stuff. If we get into "you said/I said" there is enough material to trade for decades.
The point is, can Hezbollah carry out that threat? The answer is no. Is Israel under threat of annihilation? The answer is no. Are Israel's neighbours going to suddenly unite and attack Israel when it is allied with the only military superpower in the world? If you believe they are I want some of what you're smoking.
Withdrawing from Sheeba would not bring peace. Israel does not want peace. The pattern since 1948 has been this. Israel attacks in response to so-called terrorism and empty threats just as you have described. When the dust settles, they have pushed out the borders a little more. Then we have a period where Israel inflicts terror on the Palestinians and goads them into retaliating. The cycle begins again.
Read the history. Here is a good place to start. www.bidstrup.com/zionism.htm
Do not trust me, Bidstrup or anyone else. Check every fact with an independent source.

........................................Oh for the love of God (or Allah in this case) just like we have rhetoric spouting dickheads on our side, they have the exact same thing on their side! Of course their old battle axe will whip the locals up, that by the way also sums up the entire career of Ariel Sharon I might add! When North Korea does its' "THE PEOLE OF THE GLORIOUS REPUBLIC WILL BURN YOUR MOTHERS EYES OUT AND EAT THEM WITH A CUP OF SOUP YOU IMPERIALIST WHORE OF NEW BABYLON" - we all yawn - If Israel was serious about leaving occupied lands, it would find a partner for peace. I think you would be very narrow minority to suggest otherwise.

If radio live thought you were left-wing, then they obdviousley have'nt done there homework and monitored the opposition Newstalk ZB and listened into Christchurch's number one rateing station as Mike Yardley, now there's a pure broadcast genius who was not afraid to pull the punch.

I agree with you on something finally- 'The Daily Show' is brilliant!
If half an hour a week is not enough for you, go to the Comedy Central website and they have a ton of Daily Show and Colbert Report stuff (streaming video).

Try and catch…. ‘The Daily Show'
A study by two East Carolina University political scientists recently set off some alarm bells. They sat college students down in front of '04 campaign coverage from either CBS News or "The Daily Show," and then asked the students to judge the candidates. After watching Stewart, students were harder on candidates and expressed less trust in the electoral system.

When I read things like that it cements the idea that the mainstream media isn't doing its job, but at least it's being analysed.
