Secret Government blacklist
Net filter blocks 7,000 child porn sites
Some of the country's Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have begun blocking around 7,000 websites on a secret Government blacklist. The filter is aimed at restricting sites containing child pornography. But critics claim it gives the Government a free hand to censor anything else it disagrees with.
I'm sorry, a 'secret Government blacklist'? Are you joking? Why does the list have to be secret? Why can't the list be published so that there is scrutiny of what the Government is censoring because we all know once the Government has this power they will start adding all sorts of things to it, especially if it is secret.
Won't terrorism get added to that list very quickly, and who will define the 'Terrorists'? Will Hamas be on that list? The Taliban? The African National Congress? Who is going to be defining what when it is a secret censorship program and how do we check what has been added?
I am very dubious about this program and believe there should be total public scrutiny regarding ANY Government blacklist. Congrats to Orcon for refusing to be part of it!

Want to know the ironic part. Orcon is partly owned by the state now.
The list will likely be based on an international list which can be found on wikileaks or something like that.
If it was explicitly stated the list could only be for blocking that sort of content I wouldnt be opposed however, as its trying to hit the whole supply side. Thing is I doubt it would really work and governments have proved totally incapable of working out what should and should not be on such lists before.
Plus the whole potential for censorship as you say.
My name is Ralph D. Northway, I found my email, phone and mail all are on a blacklist. I can not even apply for work on line. It is like they are starving me outand I am some kind of Terrorist. The only reason I could be put on this list, I found DHS employees stealing research work and selling it to forgien countries, they have even threatened my life for this. I have tried sending email to Washington DC for over four years. they have stopped them all. I am even blacklisted with local authorites, they call this Law Enforcement Sensetive. I tried to file a complaint with the Inspector Generals office Homeland Security Tucson (Special agent Scott Mulay and Charels E. Vesely) they had me arrested for trespassing. What is the United States Government comming too. To me this is Communist! I have no rights or freedoms. I can not afford lawyers right now. A regular lawyer couldn't even help becuase they call this Law Enforcement Sensetive, blacklist are not part of the Justice system. They are part of the Presidents systems. How would an innocent citizen fight. Any suggestions.
