I would send my kids to an unqualified teacher the way I would send them to an unqualified Dr, Dentist or Surgeon

Hekia Parata and John Banks were the Duo of Doom who announced the latest ideological brain fart dressed up as education policy this week with news that Charter Schools will be able to hire unqualified teachers to teach.

A party with 1.07% of the vote shouldn't be allowed to promote far right policy like charter schools that hurt eduction for profit margins.

National claims it's the 1 in 5 children not succeeding that justifies these reforms. That's a barefaced lie, when Key says 1 in 5 kids are failing at school, he's using old stats. It's now 1 in 20 kids & our education system is ranked 6th in OECD, our public education system is the envy of the rest of the world.

Why are we allowing Key to dismantle a public education system that is working, and where it isn't working we know it's a simple issue of resourcing.

You want increased educational achievement? Tackle child poverty, don't create charter schools using taxpayer money not answerable to the same state school standards!

I would send my kids to an unqualified teacher the way I would send them to an unqualified Dr, Dentist or Surgeon. John Key doesn't have a mandate to denigrate public education in the way he is attempting here.

The contempt National have for public education can be seen in the appointment of Banks as Associate Education Minister. When the person who said this in the last election...

"If we continue the bankrupt response of just paying young Polynesian, young Maori men in south Auckland the dole to sit in front of TV, smoke marijuana, watch pornography and plan more drug offending and more burglaries, then we’re going to have them coming through our windows".

...can be appointed to Education, you know the book burners have taken over.

Far right ideology doesn't a public education policy make. What is galling is that the majority of Ministers send their kids to private schools. Using those most negatively impacted by low public education funding to justify free market dogma into a sector none of them will be directly impacted by is elitist decision making at its most disconnected.

  1. As I said, we already have hundreds of 'doctors' who are totally unqualified - it's called alternative medicine. Most chiroprators call themselves doctor yet have never set foot in a medical school. Essentially the same as charter schools, as long as they dont undermine the existing system then I have no problem.

  2. Oh but Tamati..... chiropractors are not fully funded by the taxpayer! Also, chiropractors at least have some training.

Lets look up teacher in the NZ dictionary......

    Teacher (noun)
    1. A person with a birth certificate, preferably a rugby player or soldier.

  3. well then Tamati .... so that's alright then! A sound reason to send the kids to a bunch of unqualified teachers. Sounds like a very medievil Catholic solution to me. Can you let me know the fast route to victimhod next time you're on, and tell me how I can idolise the Jonky God, or do I have to buy a property somewhere adjacent, but south of Auckland and hope for a Destiny to rescue me>
