Global warming denial

NZ storms harbingers of climate change
The storms, droughts and floods that hit New Zealand last year could be a harbinger of climate change, weather scientists say.
New Zealand's weather extremes in 2008, from droughts in January to storms in July and August, are detailed in asummary published yesterday by the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa). The July and August storms that wreaked havoc across New Zealand caused $68 million damage and killed five people, Niwa said. The drought in the west of the North Island early last year cost $1 billion, it said. Niwa principal scientist James Renwick said the extremes could be a preview of how global climate change would affect New Zealand weather.
Watching the TVNZ news on this last night they managed to do the entire report, warmer and more extreme weather events, without ONCE mentioning global warming, it was incredible and jaw dropping. We are still in utter denial in this country about global warming and we have a Government comprised of a party who believe Global Warming is a hoax, who believe that a 2 degree rise in temperature would be a great benefit to NZ and that C02 is a misunderstood nutrient. To our embarrassment the Government scrapped the ETS and have set up a select committee to challenge the science behind global warming, can you imagine the global media scrum who will want to gather and laugh at the stupid climate change denial hick NZers? National and ACT will destroy our clean green reputation with their Global Warming inquisition all the while weather events will get more extreme and we will continue to stick our heads in the sand.

"I am not saying 2008 was a result of climate change, but we should expect to see more years like that,"

from the article:
"The idea of a sunny year, but with some pretty violent storms, is consistent with climate change."
...Streetfighter the above comment is nonsensical. You could equally say the idea of a dry/overcast/cold year with etc etc is also consistent with climate change.
There is always climate change, always will be. The point is the global warming/sea level rise scare is over. Kaput.
So it's back to "global warming" now?
I thought we all agreed that it was "climate change" after that discovery about the earth cooling since 1998?
Funny every generation has recored extreme weather events and flooding going way back to whenever...
Hot temperatures its summer ffs
Waiting for Bomber to claim those aussie tourists killed under the glacier as first victims of global warming.
Remember Cyclone Bola back in the 80's? Or Cyclone Ofa in Samoa in '90?
What a shame they didn't happen 20 years later so we could blame them on GLOBAL WARMING!!!! too.
or what about the big ass monsoon/typhhon that wiped out the HUGE mongol invading fleet off the cost of Japan in 1251?
Definitely Global Warming Sagat, don't you know anything?
wow. A bunch of streetfighter chars turn up and all have the same view?!
It MUST be true.
Go back to your cave.
Hey bomber want to check those IPs for us? If this guys posting under multiple names it might be worth a few deletes or a ban :p
You can't IP check or ban on blogspot/blogger. I wonder why they have not implemented it after all this time.
Probably because there are about 10 billion blogs in the world and Google can probably do without the hassle of checking IPs and blocking people every time a childish spat erupts in a blog somewhere.
Bomber and Tim moderate a little too heavily at times, a little too light at other but mostly it is pretty balanced so you can't complain too much.
...do you call it "moderation" ? What's wrong with censorship ?
Ahhh Mr Denier Ayrdale is back.
So are you willing to front up and tell us why you believe a handful of marginal man made climate change denying scientists over the research done by the vast majority of reputable scientists which shows that humans are responsible, at least in part, for recent climate change?
What makes your group of scientists more valid than the vast majority?
The scientific consensus is that climate change is at least partly affected by human actions. Was this consensus formed with the express purpose of giving politicians a new reason for slapping us with more taxes? Do you believe that? Are you nuts?
The science is there, there is consensus. Of course something *could* come along and change current thinking, but at the *moment* there is no evidence strong enough to change the consensus. It is deniers that are taking the 'faith' position on this issues.
But either way, do you really think the human race can carry on its current trajectory without making itself extinct?
Repeat after me. Climate is not weather.
Weather describes the short-term state of the atmosphere in localised area.
Climate is the average weather conditions usually taken over a 30-year time period for a particular region and time period.
Hello anon.
Yes, I really do think the human race will survive, if greenie zealots are stopped from their anti-capitalist/socialist crusade. Hence participation in the blogosphere.
Money makes the world go 'round huh?

So the peer reviewed, independent scientific consensus that recent climate change is at least in part man made is merely a front for the commie conspiracy to stop the hard working joe-on-the-street from driving his hard earned Holden V8 and to turn us all into PC lesbian flax weavers?
Gotta love it.
The deniers can't argue against the science. They can't argue against common sense. They can't seem to logically defend their positions. They resort to drivel like "anti-capitalist/socialist crusade." to describe the Green movement.
Ayrdale you really a poor quality troll, do you really have nothing better to do with your time?
Wonderful stuff. Love it. Am enjoying Bowalley Road a lot too.
