Welfare to be cut off after missed phone calls - the four beneficiaries of the Apocalypse are upon us

And it begins, the four beneficiaries of the Apocalypse are upon us...

Benefits cut if you don't return calls
Beneficiaries who fail to answer three phone calls and a voicemail from Work and Income are being told they'll have their welfare payments slashed in half.

The drastic measure forms part of the Government's crackdown on long-term welfare dependency.

...the long list of disqualifications recently publicized by Bennett are to soften the public up for the vast beneficiary pogrom about to launch.

This has nothing to do with finding beneficiaries work in a 6.8% official unemployment rate, this is about creating excuses to disqualify beneficiaries from being able to claim welfare.

How finding reasons to cut welfare will help our historic inequality rate or the 270 000 children living in poverty isn't spelled out because that's not this Governments priority. This Governments priority is to cut costs and to John Key, these aren't people, these are costs that need cutting.

This Government chose to borrow billions for tax cuts for the richest NZers. That flow on effect of raising GST on all of us to help subsidize that tax cut led to a massive drop in revenue and when Bill English said that hole would be filled from the welfare budget last year, he wasn't kidding.

Cutting benefits off because you've missed phone calls is cruelty masquerading as social policy.

This Government finds new ways of making me feel embarrassed to be a NZer every single week.

Especially if you appreciate how much it costs to even have a fucking telephone (or mobile) in NZ!
