Ministry of Social Development incompetence makes bennie fraud look like chump change

Benefit cheats get away with $16m
Benefit fraud cost taxpayers nearly $16 million last year with 10 social welfare staff sacked for ripping off the system. Figures released to the Herald under the Official Information Act show fraud detected by the Ministry of Social Development has almost doubled from $8.1 million five years ago.

I'm sorry, we are jumping up and down for $16 million in benefit fraud??? What about the almost half a billion the Ministry of Social Welfare blows every year due to their own incompetence?

Ministry's mistakes cost taxpayers
Beneficiaries owe the Ministry of Social Development nearly $1 billion and about half of it is because of overpayments, official figures show. The total includes recoverable assistance of about $410 million, fraud about $65 million and an outstanding overpayments balance of $454 million which the ministry is trying to get back.

We love to bash the dirty filthy bludger and no one hates them more than the sparkling bright rednecks of NZ, even when the incompetence of the department makes bennie fraud look like chump change.

Bill English wants to make up the $2billion deficit from his failed 'turbo charge' change in GST from beneficiaries while Cathy Odgers shows us the spite and casual racism the right have towards the poor with her plans for who can breed and who can't.

Beneficiaries who account for 14% of the 2008 electorate need to understand that if they don't vote in this election against National, then their standard of living is about to take another deep dive.

It is interesting that the true rates of benefit fraud have actually not changed since they bothered to keep records. Social Development knows exactly what the percentage rate is and taken as a whole, it is what it is expected to be, in comparison with any other sector of society. What I mean by this is there is an effect psychologists refer to, called the magic 10 percent. This is to say that at any time in society, up to 10% of people are bent in some way. This can applied to any societal subculture, you could say 10% of police are bent, 10% of politicians, 10% of beneficiaries, 10% of priests, so on and so fourth. So no matter what rules are introduced in terms of benefits, there will always be some level of fraud and those levels will always remain fairly constant, varying from between zero and the 10% mark, such is human nature. There is a corresponding link between these rates and how well a country is doing economically, at least in terms of crimes of dishonesty. Indicators also support the idea that crimes of violence also go up when a country is not doing well. Common sense really?

All this crap National is dishing out at the moment, attacking our most disadvantaged is very typical for them, it is what they always do and to large degree, Fatty Paula is the instrument. When Shipley was in power and the country largely in the shit, she instituted a well organised propaganda campaign against beneficiaries then. If anyone remembers, it was relentlessly reported by the popular puppet press, that the problem with this country was solo mothers. Then Jenny started on the unemployed, sickness beneficiaries etc, etc, etc. And our red neck population ate this shit up...it seems if the media reports it, it must be right because many Kiwis lack the intelligence to work things out for themselves. Government knows this, that Kiwis in many cases are, well not so bright, after all Kiwis have very short political memories and don't seem to remember the National of old, which is exactly the same as the National of today, same old, same old. Such venomous propaganda is a very useful tool when wanting to divert attention away from real issues, just play the blame game. Now National is actually trying to blame our old folks for this countries woes, in typical style, the problem with this country is pensioners. Bullshit!

The problem with this country is and has been for a very long time, mismanagement, political party self interest and a complete lack of imagination to come up with any inventive policy, that actually addresses the root causes of our problems. Under National the answers have always been, throw some more people in jail, attack beneficiaries and sit on your arse in parliament playing with yourself, while you find ways to make your wealthier mates just that little bit richer. Unfortunately, given the bizarre levels of cooperation between the Labour and National at the moment and the policies they have jointly imposed on our country, it is pretty bloody hard to pick a difference. Labour has truly lost its way and as an opposition, has proved completely ineffective.
