David Garrett to admit other questionable acts in Parliament today
MP faces new allegations
ACT MP David Garrett will seek to make a personal statement to Parliament this afternoon following fresh allegations about about past criminal charges., the party has confirmed.
It follows questions to Mr Garrett by One News about whether he had ever pleaded guilty to any other charges in New Zealand.
When told the question referred to Mr Garrett being discharged without conviction on a charge of creating a false identity Mr Garrett responded: "I will comment on that later today".
Mr Garrett, the party's hardline law and order spokesman, has been in the firing line this week over revelations he had an assault conviction in Tonga.
Oh sweet jesus, he is the gift that keeps on giving isn't he? Where are my shrill screamers for hardline justice today? It can't be easy, their favourite blogger is a crim, they favourite hardline politician lies about being a crim - is Garth McVicars crying into his victims rights pillow tonight?
David Garrett’s claim that he isn’t a hypocrite pushing for raw meat law and order policy while hiding his conviction for assault simply doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. While the conviction occurred 8 years ago, ACT have always fought against clean slate legislation that would remove minor convictions from peoples records and the bizarre circumstances of Garrett’s assault ironically gives weight to the kind of discretion in sentencing Judges were allowed before the 3 strikes legislation that Garrett promoted!
Garrett is a hypocrite, a thug and his raw meat lock them up forever crap injects hate into social policy - I’d say that to his face but am concerned he’d assault me.
I can't wait to see what he has to explain to Parliament today at 2pm.

True. These scandals hurt everyone involved in them from Hide, Harawiri and Douglas' taxpayer jaunts, the Greens rorting of their accomodation expenses and now this.

This latest revelation about Garett says something about his character - which is not good - regardless of the fact that he was discharged without conviction.
Garett benefitted from societies understanding and forgivenss, for an act which is pretty despicable.
Yet he cannot extend the same to others who have had far fewer opportunities in life than he had, who have gone off the rails.
