The Summer of our discontent

Bus drivers reject pay offer in stormy meeting
Bus drivers have rejected a NZ Bus pay-rise offer, despite a union recommendation that the offer be accepted. About 900 NZ Bus drivers and cleaners were invited to the meeting today to discuss the pay offer which amounted to an increase of $2 an hour over three years. The company had previously offered $1.80 over two years

You know when workers have had a gutsful when they ignore their union’s advice to take the crumbs the boss man has thrown them. The despicable manner in which NZ Bus has treated their workers by locking them out to try and muscle a decision was seen for what it was by others after NZ Bus’s contract was threatened by the ARC. This bullying manner has been seen across the industrial action spectrum ever since National and ACT won and bosses have felt they can try it on, the blowback however is that workers become so angry at being abused they go septic. Good on them, I hope they make NZ Bus hurt.

We face a Summer of discontent with industrial action.

NZ Bus services were off the road for a week last month when Infratil-owned NZ Bus locked out drivers after they decided to work strictly to the rulebook.

That meant 80,000 workers and 10,000 students had to find other ways to and from work and school.

The lockout cost the bus company more than $1 million in lost subsidies after the Auckland Regional Council stopped paying the company and threatened to cancel contracts.

THEY BOUGHT 3 OVERSEAS AIRPORTS AND SHELL DIDN'T THEY WITH THE MILLIONS IN SUBSIDIES INSTEAD OF PAYING THEIR STAFF.THEY JUST SOLD LUBECK, (and glasgow prestwick and kent/london will be next)AND HAD A DEAL WITH BUDGET/SHIT AIRLINE RYANAIR TO BRING IN 1-2 MILLION PASSENGERS WHEN THEY ONLY HAD HALF A MILLION.IT'S A BIT LIKE AIR N.Z BUYIN SEPARATE PLANES FOR THE TRANS TASMAN AND DOMESTIC ROUTES WHEN TRANS TASMAN EFFECTIVELY IS DOMESTIC AND YA SHOULDN'T NEED A PASSPORT.THE SHELL SHIT I'M UNSURE ABOUT BUT I DON'T LIKE BUS DISRUPTIONS AND THEY HAVE TO KEEP THE UN-USED ROUTES SUBSIDISED.

p.s tim i think they should keep cash fares for the rugby world cup, its quaint...

That's why you pay into NZ Super. So they can get into business deals with companies who fuck their staff over for years.
