Cops kill an unarmed man on camera at Bart Station and the fuckers get away with it

I never had much difficulty believing that American soldiers had willingly tortured Iraqis at Abu Ghraib prison because I look at the way the American’s treat their own citizens.

UPDATE: 15th Jan

The Cop has just been arrested for murder. The system does work sometimes.

  1. After having watched this expecting a more obvious "murder", I can say that this is quite obviously an accidental death and in NZ would be considered manslaughter at most.

The guy pulls his gun out and it goes off and I am 99.9% sure that it is an accident. Of course it could be his redneck subconcious pulling the trigger for him...
Should he have pulled out the gun? No.
Should he have had the gun pointed at anyone at any time? No.

Did he murder the guy? No.

This is the problem with giving train station rentacops guns. They shoot people.
I have direct experience with pistols and military rifles and I can tell you I would be uneasy having ANYONE handling weapons in these situations - least of all half trained cops.
Pistols in this regard are the MOST dangerous because, as we can see here, it is far easier to accidentally point one at someone and have them go off. We are far less aware of where a pistol barrel is pointing because it is so much shorter.

  2. This slimy cop resigned when called upon for administrative questioning so as a civilian he can take the 5th and not answer any questions. They will get him and I don't think the jury will think well of his actions.

The question begs, why was he pointing it in the first place! Manslaughter be damned, if he pulled it, he had to have the intent to use it. We were always taught, if you don't intend to use it - don't draw it in the first place - the guy wasn't posing a particular problem.
I agree with the rest of your post.

Why he pulled it out is a good question. From my memory it went off soon after he pulled it, which makes sense.

WHY he pulled it out? Ego? fear? Stress?

    God knows.

  5. The possibility that the weapon was faulty is open also. Some police pistols do not have a safety and rely on their 4.5 kg trigger pull (uncocked) as the only safety device.

Maybe he had pulled and cocked his weapon in the previous engagement and holstered it without uncocking it?

That would mean he pulled his weapon with a hair trigger which would natually have gone off as soon as he put his finger in the guard. (yet another thing you do not do until ready to fire)

    There are many possibilities.

  6. As appalling as this death was - it doesn't appear at all that they've got away with it. With pending investigations, law suits etc how can you claim they have?

  7. I must admit I have nearly giggled my balls off reading the long list of excuses and apologies so many seemingly off duty cops have written here. It’s extraordinary because that level of optimistic defense is never afforded anyone else, but it is being afforded to this bloody cop. Listen to you all, he had a hair trigger gun, it malfunctioned, blah blah – he fucking shot a handcuffed man in the back who was being held down by two other cops on tape – yet the level of apologist bullshit so many of you have posted seems more at home from the Israeli embassy than free thinking individuals. Baaa-baaaa you sheep.

  8. ...seemingly off duty cops have written here...

Just because somebody sides with the police, doesn't make them one.

Using your logic, you must be a criminal.

he fucking shot a handcuffed man in the back

To be fair, he wasn't handcuffed when he was shot, he was handcuffed after.
    Standard police procedure.

Life lesson learned there, when a police officer or three are asking you to stop resisting, then stop resisting.

yet the level of apologist bullshit so many of you have posted seems more at home from the Israeli embassy than free thinking individuals. Baaa-baaaa you sheep.

    Of course child.
Btw, do you think hamas supports free thinking individuals?

Could you quote where you saw that please Anon - I thought the issue of whether he was handcuffed before he was shot hadn't been resolved, I saw the Police Spokesperson admit shortly after the shooting that Oscar Grant might have been handcuffed at the time of his shooting.

But I take Anon 6:37ams point that there certainly seems to be a much higher level of sympathetic rationalizations for an act caught on tape that if had been committed by anyone else, would be considered murder.

  10. would be considered murder.

No they would not. Manslaughter for sure.

One of your assumptions is that he meant to shoot him. The other is that it was not his job to arrest him.

    Both are completely wrong

Hmmm, so if you were not sure, why did you say he was handcuffed in your blog?
