Aotearoa (NZ)

Another reason to love Al Jazeera. I've never seen both names used in an overseas website like that.

  1. I'm not sure what is more amusing. That you just outed yourself as a web hermit or that you think a country selection list like that is manually populated and thus demonstrates a political choice by the site designer.

  2. I was noting the fact that two names exist rather than just New Zealand - that's the first time I had ever seen that outside of a NZ website. I don't know how or by what process both names ended up there - all I know is that it's there.

  3. I've seen it a few times myself think its a generic generator used in a few place but it is still good to see bilingualism recognised internationally

  4. Just for your edification, there are NZers working for "Al Jazeera" and one can likely assign this to such a person, since it is not likely anyone in the Middle East knows the word "Aotearoa".
So calm down, there is probably nothing in it it at all.
By the way, have the peoples of NZ ever been asked if they wanted their country to have another name ? I don't recall it myself.
