Maori Party - McCarten
After talking with Matt McCarten following the SNBC show at the weekend I'm forecasting a very high chance of the Maori Party taking all the Maori seats at the general election. Matt's a smart operator and although it seems highly unlikely he could ever be a full-time campaign manager for them his strategic advice will probably be evident in the course of the campaign. The Labour party will have a battle royal on its hands.
Labour has not provided them, in this parliamentary term, with any victories that they can point to. But runs on the board isn't the game. In fact the failure to influence policy (eg. have Te Reo made compulsory in the new school curriculum) is a good thing for the Maori party as these things can be seen as Labour's disrespect of Maori and therefore emphasises the need to have a real Maori voice in parliament.
I think reminders of kupapa incompetence and shenanigans like Dover Samuels' latest episode of shame could fortify Maori Party votes if the contrasts between them and Labour were driven home enough. Shane Jones' childish red neck carping comes immediately to mind - even before Parekura Horomia's famed gobbledegook and Nania Mahuta's obsequious obedience. They make me ill, these characters. They are traitors to their own people so that they may be minions for the Labour Party. I cannot fathom why anyone would vote for them.
As for McCarten and his Unite union, they may be in for a very busy year also.

God forbid that some Maori have different view on life to you Tim. They should all be in lock step just like us white fullas right?
It wil lbe in thebest interests of New Zealand if the Maori Party win all the maori seats and go with Natinal with Pita Sharples the Minister of Maori Affairs.
overhang electorates to the Maori Party and party vote to Labour might be enough for Labour to keep power, don't expect Labour will try too hard,

Go their respective Maraes and make that statement Tim.
Tell them what you have done for them to allow you to make such a statement.
And to make your statement carry more weight,
say it in Maori.
Compulsory Te Reo? WTF?
"Compulsory Te Reo? WTF?"
For Tim to be claiming the high moral ground over respected Maori, you fucking bet he better speak Te Reo.
Unless he wants to be seen as yet another White Man who knows whats best for the natives.
