Clown gets what he deserves
This violent, awful individual gets what he deserves. I’m all for rehabilitation and the necessary change of our prison conditions so that they can be rehabilitative with more focus on restorative justice, but there are those too damaged to help beyond keeping them away from the public until old age make them criminally impotent. George Charlie Baker is one of them.
Liam Ashley's killer sentenced to at least 18 years
The man who murdered teenager Liam Ashley in the back of a prison van earlier this year was today sentenced to serve at least 18 years in prison. George Charlie Baker was given a life sentence, with a minimum parole period of 18 years, when he was sentenced in the High Court in Auckland today. The 25-year-old had admitted strangling and stomping 17-year-old Ashley on August 24. Ashley died the following day after his life support was switched off. Justice Reece Harmison said Baker had limited insight into his offending and was a "serious danger to himself and other people".

Now, now please AB, abusive posts will be removed, I have asked you in the past to simply make your points without attacking people. It is something most posters here can accept, but you alone seem to be the problem.
For everyone out there that has blamed Liam's parents ... what do you think their sentence should be?

Please note that's life with a minimum parole period of 18 years. As far as I know this can be taken literally
If someone were sentenced to 18 years, snigies comments might apply, with bells on.
As it is, the parole board can keep him in if they want, and if he is released and breaches any condition of his parole - ever - he goes straight back in. That's what the 'life' bit means.
One imagines amy have exhaused some of the possibilities for actively endearing himself to the parole board and based on what we know of his behaviour I can't see good behaviour in his near future.

I am happy that this prick got 18 years, yep, but I understand his weekend is going to be an exciting one. Though my opinion, I still believe that the parents should share some of the blame, if Liam wasn't left there he wouldn't be DEAD.
I am grateful that they acknowledge some of the guilt, its a start.
Lyndon, when hes served 2/3's of his sentence he will be released, their no half for violent offenders. The parole board will see him at 18 years sentence served, but 2/3's is automatic release with 6-12 months probation.

Never been one for the death penalty but I do believe this is one of those rare cases where it could be put to good use. As Bomber said there are those who can be rehabilitated and then there are the exceptions. This Baker character is a danger to society with 79 previous convictions and now this. He is a psychopath of the highest degree of which his only destiny now should be a bullet.
What more could you expect from Maoridom.

This is reaching absurd. The stage was set by Bomber saying that Baker is "too damaged to help beyond keeping him away from public" - presumably after Bomber's exhaustive professional analysis of the guy. Now we've topped that with the suggestion of capital punishment (though, thankfully, without any of that "he deserves it" nonsense).
If a human being is incurably and dangerously sick, we don't put them down like a horse. We quarantine them and treat them as best we can, and we don't give up on them as "too damaged to help". There's no reason to treat mental illness - such uncontrollable anger or the desire to rape - any differently.
So anyway, aside from all the dick-waving in this comments thread, what about the idea that this whole "put the kid that needs a scare in with the nastiest fucker we've got for a couple of minutes" wasn't an oversight? I mean, these are the same corrections people that put the kiddie-fiddlers in general population for a bit of a laugh every now and then, the rules about separation don't seem to mean a hell of a lot to them.
Did daddy perhaps ask nicely for these guys to give his boy a good scare? I do hope someone that isn't the corrections department is looking into such matters. At least a little bit.

79 convictions.....so why was he even being transported back to prison...why isn't he locked up in preventative detention...79 FOR F***S SAKE!!!! 79!!!!....I think it was time for society to give up on this bastard a long time ago
